Abstract:
An anodic photoelectrode 10 is intended to be used for receiving the irradiation with light in an aqueous solution to perform water splitting. The anodic photoelectrode 10 is provided with: a silicon membrane 1 having a front surface FS1 and a back surface BS1; and a metal oxide membrane 3 formed on the front surface FS1 of the silicon membrane 1. The metal oxide membrane 3 contains anions of an electrolyte. In the metal oxide membrane 3, the amount of the anions contained in a region located close to the surface of the metal oxide membrane 3 is larger than that in a region located close to the silicon membrane 1.
