Description:
TITLE

Antenna fixing system

TECHNICAL FIELD

The invention relates to the field of antenna fixing systems, and more particularly, to antenna fixing systems provided for fixing an antenna such as a base station to a pole.

BACKGROUND

Base station antennas for mobile telephony are commonly fixed to poles provided on rooftop sites, towers or on walls. The installation is an effortful work process for installation personnel. Nowadays, an installation process is aggravated since heavier active antennas are installed. Therefore, the installation process shall be facilitated by improving antenna mounting brackets, e.g. in order to setup heavy equipment without requiring any extra tools.

During installation, there are several challenges for the antenna installers when fixing the antenna mounting bracket to the pole. One problem occurs when provided pole adaptors do not fit well to the diameter of the poles. To rise to this challenge, long screws which can compensate for different pole sizes within certain boundaries can be used. However, long screws are cumbersome to handle during the installation since screwing several nuts on each of these long screws is effortful and takes a lot of time due to the fact that this working steps have to be done at the installation position at height while the mounting bracket is not yet fixed to the pole and has to be held by one hand until the nuts are tightened on each screw. Additionally aggravating is that, when putting the mounting bracket on the pole, typically four separate and loose parts need to be handled, the mounting bracket, the pole adaptor and at least two nuts. Upon balancing at the pole in the installation height and handling several loose parts, installers are at risk to lose some of these parts resulting in a high risk of injuries for installers being underneath and in additional installation time. SUMMARY

It is therefore an object of the present invention to remedy the above-mentioned

disadvantages and to provide an antenna fixing system enabling a quick and safe installation of the antenna mounting bracket to the pole.

The object is achieved by the features of the independent claim. Further developments of the invention are apparent from the dependent claims, the description and the figures.

According to a first aspect of the invention, an antenna fixing system comprises an antenna mounting bracket for receiving the antenna, a pole adaptor having a first side configured to partly embrace poles of a first diameter range and a second side configured to partly embrace poles of a second diameter range, a first connecting element and a second connecting element for tightening the pole adaptor to the antenna mounting bracket with the pole being clamped between the antenna mounting bracket and the first or the second side of the pole adaptor. The pole adaptor is rotatably supported by the first connecting element to be rotatable around a length axis of the first connecting element and comprises a first hinge to be rotatable around a rotation axis being normal to the length axis of the first connecting element.

Due to the two sides of the pole adaptor being configured to embrace poles of a first diameter range and of a second diameter range and the characteristic to be supported rotatably around rotation axes being normal to one another, an appropriate side of the pole adaptor for embracing the actual pole can be selected without dismantling an assembly of the antenna mounting bracket, wherein the pole adaptor and the first and second connecting element can be preassembled under comfortable circumstances.

According to an implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the first diameter range is different from the second diameter range, and the first diameter range and the second diameter range partly overlap.

Upon the configuration of the first side and the second side of the pole adaptor embracing different diameter ranges, a large overall range can be covered by the antenna fixing system. It is assumed that a diameter A of a pole is the smallest diameter which can be partly embraced by the first side still enabling a clamping function and a diameter C is the largest diameter which can be partly embraced by the first side. Further, it is assumed that a diameter B is the smallest diameter which can be partly embraced by the second side still enabling a clamping function and a diameter D is the largest diameter which can be partly embraced by the second side. Furthermore, diameter C is larger than diameter B. Hence, diameters A and D define boundaries of the overall range and diameters B and C define an overlapping range of the diameters which can be embraced.

When the diameter ranges overlap and the diameter of the pole is in the overlapping range, it is possible to clamp the pole by both sides of the pole adaptor and it is not necessary to change the side of the pole adaptor to partly embrace the pole with the appropriate side for clamping the pole. In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the antenna mounting bracket comprises at least one second hinge for supporting at least one of the first connecting element and the second connecting element pivotably with respect to the antenna mounting bracket.

By using the hinge for pivoting the first or second connecting element with respect to the antenna mounting bracket, the rotation of the pole adaptor around the rotation axis being normal to the length axis of the first connecting element is facilitated.

In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the antenna mounting bracket is provided with at least one stopper for limiting the pivoting of the connecting element. When the pivoting motion of the first or second connecting element is limited by a respective stopper, the handling of the pole adaptor when rotating around the axes is facilitated.

In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the first side of the pole adaptor and the second side of the pole adaptor have different shapes, i.e. a narrow shape and a broad or wide shape. The different shapes of the first and second side of the pole adaptor enable a better fitting of the respective side to a respective diameter range. In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the first side comprises a first-side-clamping section for clamping the pole and has a first-side- contact face connection line connecting a centre of a first-side-contact face, e.g.

corresponding to a centre line of a clamping bolt, the first-side-contact face being configured to receive an urging force of the first connecting element and a centre of a further first-side- contact face, e.g. corresponding to a centre line of clamping bolt, the further first-side-contact face being configured to receive an urging force of the second connecting element in a first orientation of the pole adaptor, and the second side comprises a second-side-clamping section and has a second-side-contact face connection line connecting a centre of a second- side-contact face, e.g. corresponding to a centre line of clamping bolt, the second-side- contact face being configured to receive an urging force of the first connecting element and a centre of a further second-side-contact face, e.g. corresponding to a centre line of clamping bolt, the further second-side-contact face being configured to receive an urging force of the second connecting element in a second orientation, wherein a minimum distance between the first-side-contact face connection line and the pole clamped by the second-side clamping section in the first orientation is different from a minimum distance between the second-side- contact face connection line and the pole clamped by the first-side clamping section in the second orientation, and the first connecting element in conjunction with the first hinge is configured to enable a change between the first and the second orientation with sustained connection of the pole adaptor and the antenna mounting bracket to provide the different clamping diameter ranges.

When the minimum distance between the first-side-contact face connection line and the pole clamped by the second-side clamping section in the first orientation is different from the minimum distance between the second-side-contact face connection line and the pole clamped by the first-side clamping section in the second orientation, clamping of the different diameter ranges can be achieved without large displacement of the pole adaptor on the connecting elements and, therefore, e.g. minimum screw lengths can be used. Further, due to the characteristic that the antenna fixing system is configured to enable a change between the first and the second orientation with sustained connection of the pole adaptor and the antenna mounting bracket to provide the different clamping ranges, furthermore, assembly of the antenna mounting bracket without loosening any of the parts is possible even in the case of a diameter of the pole not fitting to the adjusted diameter range.

In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, at least one of the first connecting element and the second connecting element comprise a clamping equipment for moving the antenna mounting bracket and the pole adaptor with respect to one another.

Using at least one of the first and second connecting element comprising a clamping equipment, the pole can be easily clamped between the antenna mounting bracket and the pole adaptor. In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the clamping equipment comprises a bolt and a nut.

By using a bolt and a nut provided by the clamping equipment, an easy adjustment to the pole adaptor with respect to the antenna mounting bracket and an easy and safe clamping of the pole are possible with simple components. In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, an operative thread of the bolt ends at a distance from an end of the bolt such that the nut cannot be removed from the thread.

Using a clamping equipment with such a bolt, the nut cannot be separated from the bolt so that the nut cannot be dropped when mounting the antenna mounting bracket is mounted to the pole even when a change of the diameter range is necessary.

In a further implementation of the antenna fixing system according to the first aspect, the pole adaptor is provided with an open slotted hole removably engaging the second connecting element.

When the second connecting element can be removably engaged with the open slotted hole of the pole adaptor, a connection between the second connecting element and the pole adaptor after inserting the pole between the antenna mounting bracket and the pole adaptor can be easily established without e.g. completely removing the nut from the bolt.

According to a second aspect of the invention, a method for fixing an antenna to a pole with the use of an antenna fixing system according to the first aspect is provided. The method comprises the steps: selecting an orientation of the pole adaptor preassembled to the antenna mounting bracket such that the first side or the second side of the pole adaptor faces the antenna mounting bracket; and exerting an urging force to the pole adaptor so that the pole is clamped between the antenna mounting bracket and the pole adaptor.

By selecting the orientation of the pole adaptor, the side suitable for embracing the actual pole diameter can be easily selected and the antenna mounting bracket with the pole adaptor in the suitable orientation can be easily mounted to the pole without large efforts for adjusting the antenna fixing system to the pole diameter.

In an implementation of the method according to the second aspect, the orientation of the pole adaptor is selected by pivoting the pole adaptor around the length axis of the first connecting element and around the rotation axis being normal to the length axis of the first connecting element.

When rotating the pole adaptor around the length axis of the first connecting element and around the rotation axis being normal to the length axis of the first connecting element, the selection of the suitable orientation of the pole adaptor can be done without separating the pole adaptor from the antenna mounting bracket.

In a further implementation of the method according to the second aspect, the urging force for tightening the pole adaptor to the antenna mounting bracket is exerted by a clamping equipment at the first connecting element and at the second connecting element.

When exerting the urging force by the clamping equipment at the first connecting element and at the second connecting element, the pole can be clamped in an effective and uniform manner. In a further implementation of the method according to the second aspect, the urging force is exerted by engaging a nut to the pole adaptor and by tightening the nut on a bolt.

By engaging the nut to the pole adaptor and by tightening the nut on the bolt, clamping can be performed in a quick and easy manner.

In a further implementation of the method according to the second aspect, the nut of the second connecting element is engaged to the pole adaptor by pivoting the bolt around an axis of a second hinge with respect to the antenna mounting bracket.

When engaging the nut of the second connecting element to the pole adaptor by pivoting the bolt around the axis of a second hinge with respect to the antenna mounting bracket, a complete removal of the nut from the bolt is not necessary so that the mounting can be executed in an effective manner.

These and other aspects of the invention will be apparent and elucidated with reference to the embodiment described hereinafter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

Fig. la and Fig. lb show an antenna fixing system according to an embodiment. Particularly, Fig. la shows a view from above onto the antenna fixing system having a pole adaptor 1 in a first orientation and Fig. lb shows a view from above onto the antenna fixing system having the pole adaptor 1 in a second orientation.

The antenna fixing system comprises an antenna mounting bracket 2 for receiving an antenna such as a base station antenna. The pole adaptor 1 has a first side 1' configured to partly embrace poles 3 of a first diameter range and a second side 1" configured to partly embrace poles 3 of a second diameter range. The pole adaptor 1 further comprises a first connecting element 4 and a second connecting element 5 for tightening the pole adaptor 1 to the antenna mounting bracket 2 with the pole 3 being clamped between the antenna mounting bracket 2 and the first or the second side 1', 1 of the pole adaptor 1. The pole adaptor 1 is rotatably supported by the first connecting element 4 to be rotatable around a length axis 6 of the first connecting element 4. Furthermore the pole adaptor 1 comprises a first hinge 7 to be rotatable around a rotation axis 7' being normal to the length axis 6 of the first connecting element 4.

A diameter of the pole 3 in Fig. la which is a wide pole is larger than a diameter of the pole 3 in Fig. lb which is a narrow pole. The pole adaptor 1 is adjustable in a predefined distance with respect to the antenna mounting bracket 2 so that a first diameter range results for clamping the pole 3 between the antenna mounting bracket 2 and the first side 1' of the pole adaptor 1 and a second diameter range results for clamping the pole 3 between the antenna mounting bracket 2 and the second side 1" of the pole adaptor 1. As to be seen in Fig. la and Fig. lb, the first diameter range is different from the second diameter range. The first diameter range and the second diameter range partly overlap so that a pole 3 having a diameter being located in the first and the second diameter range can be clamped between the first side 1' or the second side 1" of the pole adaptor 1 and the antenna mounting bracket 2.

The first side 1' of the pole adaptor 1 and the second side 1" of the pole adaptor 1 have different shapes, a narrow shape for narrow poles 3 and a broad/wide shape for wide poles 3. The different shapes can be formed by different contours seen in a longitudinal direction of the pole 3. Alternatively, the different shapes can also vary along the longitudinal direction of the pole 3 so that a pattern clamping the pole 3 is different.

The first side 1' comprises a first-side-clamping section 8' for clamping the pole 3 and has a first-side-contact face connection line L' connecting a centre of a first-side-contact face 9' configured to receive an urging force of the first connecting element 4 and a centre of a further first-side-contact face 10' configured to receive an urging force of the second connecting element 5 in a first orientation of the pole adaptor 1. The second side 1" comprises a second-side-clamping section 8" and has a second-side-contact face connection line L" connecting a centre of a second-side-contact face 9" configured to receive an urging force of the first connecting element 4 and a centre of a further second-side-contact face 10" configured to receive an urging force of the second connecting element 5 in a second orientation. As to be seen in Fig. la and Fig. lb, a minimum distance d' between the first-side- contact face connection line L' and the pole 3 clamped by the second-side clamping section 8" in the first orientation is different from a minimum distance d" between the second-side- contact face connection line L" and the pole 3 clamped by the first-side clamping section 8' in the second orientation.

The centres of the contact faces 9', 9" respectively are an intersection point of the axis 6 of the first connecting element 6 and a plane formed by the contact faces 9', 9". The centres of the further contact faces 10', 10" respectively are an intersection point of an (length) axis of the second connecting element 5 and a plane formed by the further contact faces 10', 10". In alternative embodiments, the centre of the contact faces and further contact faces can be defined in another manner while being included within the contact faces or the further contact faces.

The first connecting element 4 in conjunction with the first hinge 7 is configured to enable a change between the first orientation shown in Fig. la and the second orientation shown in Fig. lb with sustained connection of the pole adaptor 1 and the antenna mounting bracket 2 to provide the different clamping ranges.

Fig. 2 shows a perspective front view of the antenna fixing system according to Fig la in a state in which the second connecting element 5 is disengaged from the pole adaptor 1. As shown in Fig. la, Fig. lb and Fig. 2, the antenna mounting bracket 2 comprises two second hinges 11 for supporting the first connecting element 4 and the second connecting element 5 pivotably with respect to the antenna mounting bracket 2. In alternative embodiments, the antenna mounting bracket 2 is provided with only one second hinge 11 for one of the first connecting element 4 and the second connecting element 5. In further alternative

embodiments, the second hinges 11 are omitted.

Furthermore, the antenna mounting bracket 2 is provided with stoppers 12 for limiting the pivoting of the connecting elements 4, 5. In alternative embodiments, the antenna mounting bracket 2 is provided with only one stopper 12 for one of the first connecting element 4 and the second connecting element 5. In further alternative embodiments, the stoppers 12 are omitted. In Fig. 2, the stoppers 12 are integrated in the antenna mounting bracket 2, however, in alternative embodiments, the stopper 12 or the stoppers 12 can be provided as separate components attached to the antenna mounting bracket 2.

The pole adaptor 1 is provided with an open slotted hole 13 removably engaging the second connecting element 5. The open slotted hole 13 is open toward a side of the pole adaptor in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the pole 3 in a state assembled to the pole 3. By pivoting at least one of the second connecting element 5 and the pole adaptor 1 with respect to one another by means of the second hinge 11, the second connecting element 5 and the open slotted hole 13 can be engaged and disengaged. In an alternative embodiment having the open slotted hole in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the pole 3, the second connecting element 5 and the open slotted hole 13 can be engaged and disengaged by rotating the pole adaptor 1 around the length axis 6 of the first connecting element 4.

The first and second connecting elements 4, 5 of the antenna fixing system respective comprise a clamping equipment 14, 14'. The clamping equipment 14, 14' is provided for moving the antenna mounting bracket 2 and the pole adaptor 1 with respect to one another. In an alternative embodiment, only one of the connecting elements 4, 5 is provided with a clamping equipment 14, 14' moving the antenna mounting bracket 2 and the pole adaptor 1 with respect to one another and the other one is provided with a fixed clamping device merely supporting the pole adaptor 1.

Fig. 3 shows the clamping equipment 14' of the first connecting element 4 of the antenna fixing system according to the Fig la. The clamping equipment 14' comprises a bolt 15 and a nut 16. In the shown embodiment, a further nut 16' for securing the nut 16 is provided. In alternative embodiments, other means for securing the nut 16 can be provided. In further alternative embodiments, also another clamping equipment, e.g. a cam, can be provided. In the shown embodiment, the length of the bolt 15 is about 160 mm for a pole having a maximum diameter of 114 mm. In antenna fixing systems not using different sides of the pole adaptor provided with different shapes, the length of the bolts is typically about 220 mm.

An operative thread 17 of the bolt 15 ends at a distance from an end of the bolt 15 so that the nut cannot be removed from the bolt 15. The operative thread 17 of the bolt 15 can e.g. be limited by damaging the thread at the distance of the end of the bolt 15 after mounting the nut on the bolt 15. Alternatively, the operative thread 17 can also be limited by attaching a stopper as e.g. a weld point after mounting the nut on the bolt.

Figs. 4a to 4g show a sequence of mounting steps when the antenna fixing system according to Fig. la is removed from a narrow pole (corresponding to Fig. lb) and mounted to a wide pole (corresponding to Fig. la). Fig. 4a shows a state in which the antenna fixing system is attached to the narrow pole 3 using the side having the narrow shape. The pole adaptor 1 is tightened to the mounting bracket 2 clamping the pole 3 therebetween.

In Fig. 4b, for removing the antenna fixing system from the pole 3, at least one of the clamping equipment 14, 14' is to be loosen and the second connecting element 5 is pivoted with respect to the antenna mounting bracket 2. Alternatively, the first connecting element 4 is to be pivoted with respect to the antenna mounting bracket 2 in order to disengage the second connecting element 5 from the pole adaptor 1 or both connecting elements 4, 5 are pivoted.

As shown in Fig. 4c and Fig. 4d, the pole adaptor 1 and the connecting elements 4, 5 are rotated by means of the second hinges 11 and, as shown in Fig. 4d and Fig. 4e, the pole adaptor 1 is rotated around the length axis 6 of the first connecting element 4 and around the rotation axis being normal to the length axis 6 of the first connecting element 4 in order to change between different orientations of the pole adaptor 1 with sustained connection of the pole adaptor 1 and the antenna mounting bracket 2.

Fig. 4f shows a state of the pole adaptor 1 being in a position ready for being tightened to the antenna mounting bracket 2 so as to fix the antenna fixing system to the wide pole.

Fig. 4g shows a state of the pole adaptor 1, wherein the nut 16 of the second connecting element 5 is engaged to the pole adaptor 1 by pivoting the bolt 15 around an axis of the second hinge 11 with respect to the antenna mounting bracket 2, the nut 16 is tightened to the antenna mounting bracket 2 and, thereby, the wide pole 3 is clamped using the side of the pole adaptor 1 having the broad/wide shape.

The orientation of the pole adaptor 1 preassembled to the antenna mounting bracket 2 is selected such that the first side 1' or the second side 1" of the pole adaptor 1 having the suitable shape faces the antenna mounting bracket 2. If necessary the steps shown in Fig. 4b to Fig. 4f are executed, however, if the pole adaptor 1 already has the appropriate orientation, no change of the orientation is necessary for selecting the orientation of the pole adaptor 1.

As shown in Fig. 4g, the urging force is exerted to the pole adaptor 1 so that the pole 3 is clamped between the antenna mounting bracket 2 and the pole adaptor 1. The urging force is exerted by tightening at least one of the clamping equipment 14' at the first connecting element 4 and the clamping equipment 14 at the second connecting element 5 for tightening the pole adaptor 1 to the antenna mounting bracket 2.

In the embodiment, the urging force is exerted by engaging the nut 16 to the pole adaptor 1 and by tightening the nut 16 on the bolt 15. Alternatively, another clamping equipment 14, e.g. a cam, can be used for exerting the urging force to the pole adaptor 1.
