Abstract:
The present invention provides a topical anti-arthritis and anti-paralytic herbal based composition and process for the preparation thereof. The composition comprises essentially extracts of plant parts of Table 1, and optionally extracts from plant parts of Table 2. Topical application of the composition of the invention results in reported gain in increase in range of motion, reduction in pain and swelling of joints in arthritic patients.

Claims:
We Claim:

1. A composition comprising extract of at least one plant selected from Table 1.

2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, comprising extract of plants as set forth in Table 1.

3. The composition as claimed in claim 2, further comprising extract of at least on plant selected from Table 2.

4. The composition as claimed in claim 3, comprising extract of plants as set forth in Table 2.

5. The composition as claimed in claim 1 to 4, wherein said extract is obtained from plant part selected from the group consisting of seeds, flowers, roots, shoots, whole plant, and combinations thereof.

6. The composition as claimed in claim 5, wherein said extract is dehydrated plant part.

7. The composition as claimed in claim 2 and 5 to 6, wherein w/w ratio of each of extract of plants as set forth in Table 1 is in the range of 1:3 to 3: 1.

8. The composition as claimed in claim 3 to 6, wherein w/w ratio of each of extract of plants as set forth in Table 2 is in the range of 1:3 to 3: 1.

9. The composition as claimed in claim 8, wherein w/w ratio is 1: 1.

10. The composition as claimed in claim 4 to 9, wherein w/w ratio of extract of plants as set forth in Table 1 to extract of plants as set forth in Table 2 is in the range of 1:5 to

5: 1.

11. The composition as claimed in claim 10, where w/w ratio is 1:3.15.

12. A method of preparing a composition as claimed in claim 1 to 2, said method comprising:

a. obtaining at least one part of at least one plant selected from Table 1;

b. dehydrating said plant part(s) to obtain extract(s); and

c. contacting said extract(s) with at least one oil and cow urine at a temperature in the range of 107-150°C for a time period of 75-95 hours to obtain said composition.

13. A method of preparing a composition as claimed in claim 3 to 4, said method comprising:

a. obtaining at least one part of at least one plant selected from Table 1; b. obtaining at least one part of plants as set forth in Table 2;

c. dehydrating said plant part(s) to obtain extract(s); and

d. contacting said extracts(s) with at least one oil and cow urine at a temperature in the range of 107-150°C for a time period of 75-95 hours to obtain said composition.

14. The method as claimed in claim 12 to 13, wherein said oil is mustard oil and sesame oil.

15. The method as claimed in claim 12 to 13, wherein w/v ratio of extract(s) obtained from Table 1 to mustard oil is in the range of 1 : 10 to 10: 1, w/v ratio of extract(s) obtained from Table 1 to sesame oil is in the range of 1 :8 to 8: 1, and v/v ratio of mustard and sesame oil to cow urine is in the range of 1:5 to 5: 1.

16. The method as claimed in claim 15, wherein w/v ratio of extract(s) obtained from Table 1 to mustard oil is 1 :8, w/v ratio of extract(s) obtained from Table 1 to sesame oil is 1 :6, and v/v ratio of mustard and sesame oil to cow urine is 1:3.8.

ANTI- ARTHRITIC AND ANTI-PARALYTIC HERBAL OIL FORMULATION AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF

FIELD OF INVENTION

[001] The present invention pertains generally to technical field of herbal formulations for use in arthritis and paralysis. Specifically, it pertains to anti-arthritic and anti-paralytic herbal topical oil formulation and process for the preparation thereof.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

[003] Arthritis, which is commonly referred to as joint pain or joint diseases, can be of more than 100 types. Differing in severity, arthritis can affect the heart, eyes, lungs, kidneys and skin as well as the joints. Degenerative Arthritis, Inflammatory Arthritis, Infectious Arthritis, and Metabolic Arthritis are types of arthritis. Different treatment approaches including biologies, Disease-modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs), advanced therapies, and natural medicines, joint replacement surgeries, lifestyle changes, are available for arthritis. Currently used allopathic medications show different side- effects such as Edema, heartburn, stomach upset and stomach ulcers, increased risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke, cataracts, elevated blood fats and blood sugar levels, increased appetite, bone loss, stomach upset, increased susceptibility to infection, Injection site reactions, including redness and swelling; infusion reactions (difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, rapid or weak pulse) and increased risk of serious infections. Side- effects can create serious troubles considering the chronic nature of treatment of arthritis. Joint replacement surgery cannot be performed at initial stages and cannot be performed at any stage for some joints. Changes brought about to the lifestyle can be helpful but in most of the cases, they are not sufficient in themselves for the treatment of arthritis.

[004] Paralysis, which results in loss of muscle function for one or more muscles, can be accompanied by a loss of feeling (sensory loss) in the affected area. Paralysis, depending on the part which has been affected by the paralysis, can be monoplegia (affecting only one limb), diplegia (affecting two limbs), paraplegia (affecting trunk and two limbs), hemiplegia (affecting one side of body), quadriplegia (trunk and all the four limbs). Paralysis like Arthritis has no cure. Symptoms can be treated with Allopathy which suffers from many side effects.

[005] There is therefore a need in the art to develop a new medicinal herbal formulation that shows synergistic effect of the individual herbs present in it, is less costly, shows fewer side effects as compared to the existing formulations, and can be prepared easily, reduces/alleviates pain, swelling, and increases range of motion. There is also need to develop formulations which in addition to showing desired parameters as above, also show anti-paralytic effect.

[007] In some embodiments, the numbers expressing quantities of ingredients, properties such as concentration, reaction conditions, and so forth, used to describe certain embodiments of the invention are to be understood as being modified in some instances by the term "about." Accordingly, in some embodiments, the numerical parameters set forth in the written description are approximations that can vary depending upon the desired properties sought to be obtained by a particular embodiment. In some embodiments, the numerical parameters should be construed in light of the number of reported significant digits and by applying ordinary rounding techniques. Notwithstanding that the numerical ranges and parameters setting forth the broad scope of some embodiments of the invention are approximations, the numerical values set forth in the specific examples are reported as precisely as practicable. The numerical values presented in some embodiments of the invention may contain certain errors necessarily resulting from the standard deviation found in their respective testing measurements. OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[0011] It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel anti-arthritic and anti- paralytic medicinal herbal formulation that shows synergistic effect of the individual herbs present in it.

[0012] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a novel cost effective anti- arthritic and anti-paralytic medicinal herbal formulation.

[0013] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a novel anti-arthritic and anti-paralytic medicinal herbal formulation that exhibits fewer side effects as compared to existing formulations.

[0014] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a novel anti-arthritic and anti-paralytic medicinal herbal formulation that can be easily prepared. [0015] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a novel anti-arthritic and anti-paralytic medicinal herbal formulation that reduces/alleviates pain, swelling, and increases range of motion. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0016] In an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a composition comprising extract of at least one plant selected from Table 1.

[0017] In another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of preparing a composition comprising extract of at least one plant selected from Table 1, said method comprising: (a) obtaining at least one part of at least one plant selected from Table 1; (b) dehydrating said plant part(s) to obtain extract(s); and (c) contacting said extract(s) with at least one oil and cow urine at a temperature in the range of 107-150°C for a time period of 75-95 hours to obtain said composition.

[0018] In yet another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of preparing a composition comprising extract of at least one plant selected from Table 1, and Table 2, said method comprising: (a) obtaining at least one part of at least one plant selected from Table 1 ; (b) obtaining at least one part of plants as set forth in Table 2; (c) dehydrating said plant part(s) to obtain extract(s); and (d) contacting said extracts(s) with at least one oil and cow urine at a temperature in the range of 107-150°C for a time period of 75-95 hours to obtain said composition.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

It is understood by a person skilled in the art that mustard and sesame oil may be substituted independently of each other, the primary factor being cost, and a secondary factor being oil smoke point.

Gas build up was allowed to escape. At the end of the time period, the concoction was strained and filtered to obtain composition A. The composition was applied topically daily (preferably at night time before bed) to arthritic patients with swelling and pain in joints. The patients reported significant improvement in increase in joint movement and reduction in pain and swelling within 26- 30 days of application regimen.

Example 2

Discussion

[0072] It can be appreciated from the above examples that the extracts of plants as shows in Table 1 is able to provide therapeutic advantage to arthritic patients suffering from loss in range of joint movement, pain, and swelling in joints. Particularly, unexpectedly and surprisingly, it is seen that for a particular combination of extracts as described in Example 10, patients reported beneficial effects in as less as 7-10 days compared to a similar effect reported over a longer duration of time (Examples 1-9) for extracts obtained from other combinations of plants of Table 1. It is also to be appreciated that not all combinations of plant extracts show a beneficial synergistic effect, as in numerous instances (as shown in Examples 1-9), not all combinations show an incremental beneficial effect.

[0073] Overall, the present invention provides a novel composition and method of preparing the said composition, which essentially comprises extracts from particular parts of 5 different plants (Table 1), which provides synergism in benefitting arthritic patients. The composition further comprises a collection of about 63 other extracts (table 2). The composition is made using mustard and sesame oil (having high smoke point and being cheap), and cow urine.
