Title:
ANTI-BOB SYSTEM FOR CYCLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2004033280
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A control system (60,70,80) is operable to selectably activate shock damping devices (12,16) associated with a bicycle (10) so as to eliminate bobbing encountered under extreme pedaling conditions. The system (60,70,80) includes a crank axle (32,52) torque detector (30,82a,82b) which operates to detect a level of torque applied to a crank axle (32,52) and provide a control signal (86a,86b) corresponding to the level of torque. A shock damping device (12,16) coupled to the frame (48) of the cycle, and functions to absorb and dampen mechanical shocks communicated to the frame (48). The shock damping device (12,16) includes an activator (30,56,66,84) for controlling its damping function. The activator (30,56,66,84) is operable to receive the control signal (86a,86b) from the crank axle torque detector (30,82a,82b) and control the shock damping device (12,16) in response thereto. The control signal (86a,86b) may be an electrical or a mechanical signal.
