Abstract:
An anti-inflammatory agent efficacious in treating protracted inflammation or inflammation in which the immune mechanism participates. The agent comprises as the active ingredient dermatan sulfate or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof. The agent is usable in preventing or treating inflammation in association with glomerulonephritis, collagen disease, multiple sclerosis, intractable angiitis, immunopathy or autoimmune diseases. When used together with immunosuppressants (adrenocortical hormone, etc.), the agent largely enhances the effects achieved by the immunosuppressants, which makes it possible to reduce the dose of the immunosuppressants. It is orally, intramuscularly, intraarterially or intravascularly administered in a dose of from 50 to 3,000 mg/day.
