DESCRIPTION

ANTI STATIC MATTRESS THAT HAS THE CAPABILITY OF SHIELDING

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES

Subject of the Invention

This invention relates to a mattress that is made from a special conductive fabric having electromagnetic wave shielding property and which has the property of discharging static electric through the static grounding unit it has.

State of Prior Art

With the development of technology the electromagnetic waves emitted by devices that are being used widely like radio and television data stations, CRT monitors and computers, cell phone base stations, cell phones and home appliances affect human health adversely.

Electromagnetic waves emitted by the above mentioned devices are absorbed by the human body. Absorbed electromagnetic energy has adverse effects on human health like increase in body temperature, headache, fatigue, attention disorder.

The electromagnetic fields created by devices which are used widely in daily life can not be destroyed. Thus, protection against electromagnetic waves in the present state of art focuses on products that isolate the human body from electromagnetic fields.

Especially considering that on the average one third of human life is spent on sleeping, and hence in bed, protection against electromagnetic waves during sleep becomes more important .

Bed and home textile products are mentioned in patents numbered KR20010083016 and EP1166686 for this reason. There is not a complete protection in electromagnetic sense in either of these patents. Since with these two patents and. similar studies only a partial protection is provided by conductive metal filaments or wires used in mattresses and home textile products.

Another problem encountered in daily life which can in some cases be significantly dangerous is static electric. Static electric is the latent potential formed after two surfaces contact each other and then is separated. This effect is caused by the release of positive and negative electrons and their signs being changed.

One of the two bodies that are in contact is charged positive (+) while the other is charged negative (-) . If one of the bodies in touch is a human body, the human body is always charged positive. Charging of human bodies with static electric is fundamentally due to friction and the electrical devices or systems that are used.

If the body charged with static electric is non-conductive, the load is too much and the discharge period is very long. This body can only be discharged if an electrostatic discharge system is applied. Discharge generally occurs when the human body gets in touch with another object which has a different potential and it occurs very fast. For

example a very brief, even instantaneous, contact with a conductive metal can lead to discharge.

Today, static grounding wristbands are used to discharge static electric accumulated in the human body for various reasons. A wristband that is put on and grounded appropriately keeps the static electric level at close to soil level. Nevertheless, this product needs to be tested and observed daily. Otherwise it can not fulfill its function.

Apart from that, static electric accumulation in the human body is tried to be kept at minimal levels by products like anti static shoes, floor coverings, chairs, cleaning materials. Because when combined with a flammable atmosphere in the environment, the spark effect which can occur at the moment of discharge of static electric can lead to an explosion and bears the risk of fire. Therefore, in order for this risk to be kept at minimal levels, the human body should be discharged regularly.

For this reason, anti static mattresses that allow for the discharge of static electric accumulated in the human body during sleep, without disturbing the person and without the need for the use of any extra products are manufactured. As an example, it is stated for the mattress which is the subject of the utility model with application number TR2007/05555 that static electric is minimized by using carbon wires placed in the outer covering. Nevertheless, the discharge obtained by contact of carbon wires and the human body leads to an accumulation of static electric in the mattress. Static electric accumulated in the mattress can pass back to the human body since the mattress is not statically grounded or this static electric is not

discharged from the mattress. In other words, accumulation of static electric in human body can not be prevented.

Similarly, in patent documents numbered JP2001292881 and

CN275303 it is stated that using conductive filaments or wires present in the mattress cover, static electric accumulated in the human body is kept at a minimum. But in these patents, the static electric removed from the body is not discharged from the mattress. In other words, static grounding is not mentioned. Thus, discharge of static electric with this and similar patents can not be obtained.

In the patent numbered FR2714838, conductive hard wires laid in the mattress which collect static electric are mentioned. The electrodes which are on the outer surface of the mattress collect this static electric from the hard wires and then this static electric is grounded via cable. But the mentioned mattress is far from being able to provide comfort because of the hard wires it has and since the wires are not in contact with the human body, discharge from the body can not be accomplished completely. Moreover, the placement of electrodes that collect the static electric accumulated in the mattress on the sides of the mattress such that they form protrusions is an element which spoils the visual integrity of the mattress. Because the comforting properties expected from a mattress are not provided due to the cables and electrodes placed in the mattress, the subject matter of this patent is a product that is hard to prefer in daily life.

There are not any mattress or home textile products which can provide the properties of electromagnetic shielding and static electric discharging in the present state of art.

With the conductive fabric used in mattress and home textile products that is the subject matter of the invention, electromagnetic shielding is achieved and static electric discharged from the human body to the fabric is then statically grounded through the static grounding unit.

Detailed Description of the Invention

This invention is about a mattress which is covered with a conductive fabric that has electromagnetic shielding property, which has a static grounding unit for full discharge of static electric accumulated in the human body and which has electromagnetic shielding property.

With this invention, both protection from electromagnetic waves in the frequency range of 0-300 GHz and discharge of static electric accumulated in the human body for various reasons during the day is provided.

The special conductive fabric (1) which is obtained by the net structure formed by the filaments is soft enough to be used on the surface of the mattress (2), is of such quality that it will not cause allergy or similar negativities and is obtained by knitting or weaving filaments that are highly conductive .

The fabric of the mattress (1) which will be continuously in contact with the human body is made by knitting or weaving the metal filaments that have high conductivity and in such a way that they will form a continuous net. This continuous conductive structure (5) of the fabric (1) has the property of reflecting and absorbing electromagnetic waves. Such a fabric having these properties is known from the patent

document with the application number TR 2008/000212. The special fabric (1) which will be used for the subject of this invention has these properties.

The static electric accumulated in the human body is conducted to the mattress through the continuous structure (5) of the fabric (1) made up of a net of conductive filaments and this static electric is then conducted to the static grounding line (7) which can be attached to the mattress via a grounding cable (3) .

The connection of the mattress with the static grounding unit is obtained by removable connecting elements like snap fasteners (4a, 4b) . The static grounding cable is connected to the mattress via male snap fasteners (4a) which can be connected to any part of the mattress (2) in multitude. The female snap fastener (4b) is soldered to the end of the static grounding cable (3) to be later connected to male snap fasteners (4a) and thus the connection is established.

The static electric accumulated in the user' s body is transferred to the fabric (1) and then it is transferred to the male snap fastener (4a) due to the conductive nature of fabric, and then to the static grounding line (7) by connecting the static grounding cable (3) to the mattress (2) . Thus, static electric in both the mattress (2) and the body is discharged. The user who is also protected from electromagnetic waves due to the shielding property of the fabric (1) gets out of the bed (2) having rested, relaxed, and healthy.

Since the connection between the static grounding unit (8) and the mattress (2) is provided via a snap fastener mechanism, the easy usability of the unit (8) increases.

4 male snap fasteners (4a) are shown on the mattress (2) that is the subject of the invention in Figure 1. The reason for this is to make it possible to connect the static grounding cable (3) to the nearest snap fastener (4a) to the wall or the plug. The connection between the static grounding cable (3) and the mattress (2) can be made by joining a conductive cord passing through the brims of the fabric (1) and the cable during manufacturing. In brief, it is possible to provide the discharge effect in any way by joining the cable (3) to the static grounding line (7) via a conductive fabric (1).

The property expected from the connection elements is that they should be conductive, since they need to transfer the static electric that is on the mattress (2) to the cable (3) . The cable that is to be used as static grounding cable (3) should as well be made of an electrically conductive material and should have such qualities that it will transfer the electric current to the static grounding line (7) .

By joining the female snap fastener (4b) with the male snap fastener (4a) that is on the mattress (2), static electric transferred from the human body to the mattress (2) is transferred via snap fasteners (4a, 4b) to the cable (3) and it is then statically grounded. Thus, static electric which has accumulated in the body of the user is indirectly grounded.

The static grounding cable (3) can be connected to the wall via a specially manufactured ending or regular plugs which are present in houses. The conductive sphere (βd) that is mounted on the wall is shown in Figure 2b and the plug that is plugged to the wall socket is shown in Figure 2a.

The plug (6) shown in Figure 2a is made of two conductive tabs (6b) that touch the grounding line and two tabs (6c) which enter into the wall socket and which are made of the same non conducting material as that of the body (6a) . Since the two non conductive tabs (6c) are made of the same non conducting material as that of the body, complete protection from electric shock is provided.

The ending of static grounding (6) that is placed on the wall can be made from a conductive material and shaped into a sphere. The conductive sphere (6d) can be put into a cup shaped mount that will be fixed to the wall via screw. Grounding using the wall can thus be achieved. Hence, an alternative is provided to users who are anxious about plugging a static grounding cable (3) that comes from the mattress (2) into the wall socket.

The anti static mattress that has the property of electromagnetic shielding completely removes static electric from both the human body and the mattress (2) by the transfer of static electric accumulated on the human body to the mattress (2) through a specially manufactured conductive fabric (1) and via the static grounding obtained by connecting a cable (3) that is connected to the mattress (2).

Thus, the human body is both cleared off static electric and protected from electromagnetic waves.

Since the mattress has filling and support layers beneath the special conductive fabric (1) as mentioned in the patent with application number 2008/00348, materials like fiber, felting, sponge, interlining, spring can provide all the properties that current mattresses have.

Thus, in addition to shielding and anti static properties provided by the mattress (2) that is the subject of the invention, all of the other properties that mattresses in the present state of art have like delayed inflammability, thermal balance, orthopedics, prevention of bad odors and fungi, anti bacterial property and prevention of mites are provided to obtain a healthy and comfy mattress.
