Description:
ANTI-TURBULENCE SYSTEM FOR INDUSTRIAL VEHICLES

This invention relates to an anti-turbulence system to be installed on industrial vehicles with a semitrailer (for example a TIR) or a truck with a closed bed with a rigid cover or tarpaulin or a truck carrying containers to allow a reduced fuel consumption. The system comprises the fixing of inflatable protrusions between the cab and the semitrailer and also on the rear doors of the semitrailer of an industrial vehicle, which are able to reduce the turbulence generated when travelling along the road, thereby achieving a positive aerodynamic action.

Industrial vehicles currently represent approximately 60% of the vehicles with fossil fuel engines traveling on the rods worldwide, with an effect on the global pollution which is very significant and negative. Nobody has so far ever used aerodynamic protrusions.

The aim of the invention is therefore to provide a system which is able to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and thereby reduce the C02 emissions into the atmosphere for protection of the environment, estimated to be approximately 7%. This action falls within the plan for protection of the global environment established by the majority of countries worldwide with the 2015-2016 Paris Agreements.

Advantageously, the invention relates to the positioning of a first inflatable protrusion to cover the space between the cab of an industrial vehicle and the front part of the semitrailer connected to it, in addition to a second inflatable protrusion fixed on the rear doors of the semitrailer, the protrusions being made operational by their inflation by means of a connection with the compressor of the industrial vehicle by the driver. In this way the industrial vehicle becomes a single element with a high air penetration capacity and neutral conveying (zero turbulence) of the air at its end.

Further characteristics and advantages of the anti-turbulence system to be installed on industrial vehicles with a semitrailer (for example a TIR) to allow a reduced fuel consumption, according to the invention, will more fully emerge from the description that follows, relative to a preferred embodiment thereof given by way of non-limiting example, and from the appended drawings, in which:

- Figure 1 is a side view of an industrial vehicle with the two aerodynamic spoilers activated, according to the invention;

- Figure 2 shows the front view of the first front aerodynamic spoiler inflated and fixed between the cab and the semitrailer of an industrial vehicle, according to the invention;

- Figure 3A shows a front view of the second rear aerodynamic spoiler fixed on the rear doors of the semitrailer, according to the invention; in this case, the rear spoiler is able to cover both the 2 rear doors, which are freed after the rear spoiler has been deflated by the driver of the vehicle and remains applied on a single door;

- Figure 3B shows a front view of the second rear aerodynamic spoiler fixed on the rear doors of the semitrailer, according to the invention; in this case, the rear spoiler is made in 2 parts and covers each of the 2 rear doors, which are freed after the rear spoiler has been deflated by the driver of the vehicle and remains applied on a single door.

With reference to the above-mentioned drawings, the anti-turbulence system to be installed on industrial vehicles with a semitrailer (for example a TIR) to allow a reduced fuel consumption, according to the invention, operates as follows.

Before starting the journey the driver of an industrial vehicle with a semitrailer (for example, a TIR) or a truck with a closed bed with a rigid cover or tarpaulin (1 A) firstly inflates, using the compressor of the vehicle (4), a front spoiler (20), which is located between the cab (3) and the semitrailer (2A). This action is possible because the front spoiler (20) is connected by a pipe (5A) to the compressor of the vehicle (4), by means of the connector (21 A); the spoiler (20) can also be inflated by means of the exhaust gases of the vehicle (4) or with the recovery of the air of the brakes and/or of the suspensions. The front spoiler (20) is fixed to the front part of the semitrailer (2A) by means of extendable and articulated arms (22) which allow them to remain integral with the semitrailer during changes of direction; also, the front spoiler (20) is fixed to the upper outer part of the cab (3) by means of an articulated coupling (23) so as to render it integral with the cab (3) during changes of direction. Subsequently, the driver of an industrial vehicle (1 A) with a semitrailer (for example a TIR) or a truck with a closed bed with a rigid cover or tarpaulin also inflates a rear spoiler (1 1 , 1 1 A, 1 1 B), fixed, but which can be removed if necessary, above the rear doors (10A, 10B) of the semitrailer (2A).

This action is possible because the front spoiler (1 1 , 1 1 A, 1 1 B) is connected by a pipe (5B) to the compressor (4) by means of the connector (21 B). The rear spoiler (1 1 , 1 1 A, 1 1 B) is fixed on the doors (10A, 10B) of the semitrailer or truck with a rigid cover or tarpaulin by means of supporting frames (12A) or integral with the doors. If the rear spoiler (1 1 , 1 1 A, 1 1 B) is made as a single piece and is fixed to the frame (12A) in order to cover both the rear doors (10A, 10B), so as to be able to open the doors (10A, 10B), the frame (12 A) has 2 joints (13) located on a single side of the frame (12A) and a handle (14) and the operation for opening the doors is made possible by acting on a deflating switch (15). If, on the other hand, the rear spoiler (1 1 , 1 1 A, 1 1 B) is made in 2 pieces and is fixed to the frame (12A) in order to cover individually the rear doors (10A, 10B), so as to be able to open the doors (10A, 10B), the frame (12A) has 4 joints (13) 2 located on each side of the frame (12A) and 2 handles (14A, 14B) and the operation for opening the doors is made possible by acting on 2 deflating switches (15A, 15B). The driver of an industrial vehicle carrying containers (1 B) will have beneath the frame a special compartment (7) for placing the rear spoiler (1 1 C), which, according to possible (but non-limiting) embodiments, comprises inflatable protrusions divided into several parts or panels (from 4 to 6). In this case, before starting the journey, the driver of the vehicle (1 B) installs the panels (from 4 to 6) by fixing on the rear part of a container (2B) metal bars (12B) the upper part of which is snap-fit whilst the lower part is fixed by means of a movable snap fitting element or screwing elements. On the metal bars (12B) are fixed the panels, which make up the rear spoiler (1 1 C) in such a way that the panels cover the entire surface of the rear part of the container (2B). The panels will then be inflated using the compressor of the vehicle (4); since each panel has a different shape, the combination of the panels creates a spoiler (1 1 C) with the final shape designed to eliminate turbulence.

This action is possible because each single panel of the rear spoiler (1 1 C) is connected by a pipe (5B) to the compressor (4) by means of the relative connector (21 B, 21 C, 21 D, 21 E).

For the purpose of transport, the protrusions, after being deflated and disassembled, can be placed in the special compartment of the frame (7). The deflation operation will be possible by acting on special deflating switches (15C, 15D, 15E, 15F).

The rear spoiler 1 1 , 1 1 A, 1 1 B and 1 1 C can also become, when it is inflated, a sort of protective“Air Bag” for the vehicles which follow the industrial vehicle (in the event of collisions).

In the same way, the two front and rear spoilers can be inflated independently from each other and reflectors or lights can be applied on them if specified or allowed by the law.

The invention described can be modified and adapted in several ways without thereby departing from the scope of the inventive concept.

Further, all the details can be replaced by other technically-equivalent elements.

Lastly, the components used, providing they are compatible with the specific use, as well as the dimensions, may vary according to requirements and the state of the art.

Where the characteristics and the techniques mentioned in the following claims are followed by reference signs, the reference signs have been used only with the aim of increasing the intelligibility of the claims themselves and, consequently, the reference signs do not constitute in any way a limitation to the interpretation of each element identified, purely by way of example, by the signs numbers.
