An apparatus for applying decorative filament to hair includes a housing defining an opening for reception of hair and arranged about an axis, an outer rotor mechanism mounted to the housing, an inner rotor mechanism mounted to the housing and a filament drive mechanism operatively coupled to the outer rotor and said inner rotor. The outer rotor mechanism includes an outer rotor adapted for rotational movement about said axis in a first direction and an outer filament coupled to the outer rotor for positioning on the hair during rotational movement of the outer rotor in the first direction. The inner rotor mechanism includes an inner rotor adapted for rotational movement about the axis in a second direction opposite the first direction and an inner filament coupled to the inner rotor for positioning on the hair during rotational movement of the inner rotor in the second direction. The filament drive mechanism includes a motor, a drive shaft coupled to the motor and at least one gear for translating movement of the drive shaft into rotational movement of the outer rotor and the inner rotor in the respective first and second directions thereof.
