Description:
AN APPARATUS CONNECTION SYSTEM, AN APPARATUS COMPRISING AN APPARATUS CONNECTION SYSTEM, A CABLE JOINT MODULE, AMD USE OF APPARATUS CONNECTION SYSTEM Technical field of the invention

The present invention relates to an apparatus connection system adapted for electric connection of at least two high voltage electric apparatuses. The present invention also relates to a high voltage electric apparatus comprising an apparatus connection system adapted for electric connection of at least two high voltage electric apparatuses.

The invention further relates to a high voltage multiple cable joint module adapted for use with the apparatus system, and to the use of the apparatus connection system. Background of the invention

When connecting high voltage apparatuses, e.g. transformers and gas insulated switchgear in a switchyard for power distribution, in substations etc., bus bar systems of different types are traditionally used. In these bus bar systems, each high voltage apparatus is electrically connected to the bus bar by specially adapted equipment, and the individually connected apparatuses are electrically interconnected via the common bus bar.

The bus bar systems available today that include branching possibility are either air insulated metallic rods or specially manufactured insulated modules that are connected together. These specially manufactured modules are not flexible, they are rigid and cumbersome.

Generally, today's bus bar systems are space demanding and inflexible. One particular problem is the costs involved in the case when a screened solution is required, for example in a compact high voltage switchyard. To continue, due to the high voltage and need for flexible dimensions it is also difficult to find cost effective solutions. Summary of the invention

An object of the present invention is to provide an alternative to the bus bar systems, for electricai connection of high voltage apparatuses, which alternative is more flexible and more cost effective.

The above object is achieved by the present invention. According to a first aspect of the present invention is defined an apparatus connection system adapted for eiectric connection of at least two high voltage electric apparatuses, said system comprising,

- a high voltage multiple cable joint moduie comprising a housing forming a conducting outer screen, and said cable joint module having at least three electrically connected joint branches located in the housing, the housing comprising connection points for connection of electric devices to said joint branches of the cabie joint moduie, and said housing being filled with a dielectric filling compound,

and said system further comprising,

- at least one electric cabie connectable to a high voltage eiectric apparatus,

- at least one cabie terminal connector adapted for mounting on the at least one electric cable,

- at least one connector interface plug forming an eiectric device electrically connectable to one of the electrically connected joint branches of the cable joint moduie and adapted for providing eiectric connection to the at least one cable terminal connector.

By the present invention is obtained the advantage that it is possible to eiectricaiiy connect apparatuses such as a transformer or switchgear or surge arrester or other arbitrary high voltage equipment to the cable joint module in a very simple way, by using electric cables provided with a terminal connector and connecting this to a connector interface plug connected to a joint branch of the cabie joint module. It is possible to utilize standardised cable components for the electric cabie, the terminal connector and the connector interface plug, or at least components that are easily avaiiabie on the market, resulting in lower costs as well as simplified assembly and maintenance. A simple, cost efficient and flexible apparatus connection system is obtained. The cabie joint module is a!so relatively compact, and allows for more compact switchyard design and also offers the possibility to bury the connection system underground.

Another advantage is that for example a surge arrester may be connected directly to the cabie joint module, and therefore it does not need to be integrated in the gas insulated switchgear as in prior art.

According to a further feature, the apparatus connection system of the present invention may be of a plug and play type, adapted to allow a high voltage electric apparatus to be plugged into the cabie joint module by means of a high voltage cable connected to the high voitage apparatus and which cable is provided with a cable terminal connector that is adapted to be plugged into a connector interface plug installed at a connection point of the cable joint module. Such a system has the advantage of facilitating and speeding up the connection of high voltage apparatuses to each other.

According to one embodiment, one joint branch of the high voltage multiple cable joint module may be electrically connected to an electrical apparatus located inside the housing. This electrical apparatus may be a surge arrester. Consequently is obtained the advantage that the surge arrester does not need to be externally connected, or be integrated in for example a gas insulated switchgear, but it can be built into the cable joint module.

According to a further feature, the dielectric filling compound may be an insulating gel. Also other types of filling compounds are possible.

According to a second aspect of the present invention is defined a high voltage multiple cabie joint module comprising a housing forming a conducting outer screen, said cable joint module having at least three electrically connected joint branches located in the housing, the housing comprising connection points for connection of electric devices to said joint branches of the cable joint module, and said housing being filled with a dielectric filling compound. This high voltage multiple cable joint module is suitable to form a part of the inventive apparatus connection system defined above and displays corresponding advantages.

The high voltage multiple cable joint module may further be provided with the feature that the dielectric filling compound is an insulating gel. in addition, the high voitage multiple cable joint may comprise at least one connector interface plug electrically connected to at least one of the joint branches.

Further, the high voltage multiple cable joint module according to the present invention, may be of a plug and play type, adapted to allow a high voltage electric apparatus to be plugged into the cable joint module by means of a high voitage cable connected to the high voltage apparatus and which cable is provided with a cable terminal connector that is adapted to be plugged into a connector interface plug of the cable joint module. This has the advantage of offering a quick and simple connection, and standardized components may be used.

According to a third aspect of the present invention is defined a high voitage electric apparatus provided with an apparatus connections system, and accordingly characterized in that it comprises an apparatus connection system adapted for electric connection of at least two high voltage electric apparatuses, of which said high voitage apparatus is a first high voltage electric apparatus, said connection system comprising, - a high voltage multiple cable joint module comprising a housing forming a conducting outer screen, and said cable joint module having at least three electrically connected joint branches located in the housing, the housing comprising connection points for connection of electric devices to said joint branches of the cable joint module, and said housing being filled with a dielectric filling compound,

that said first high voltage apparatus has an electric device that is electrically connectable to a first branch of the cable joint module and adapted for connection at one of said connection points,

that the apparatus connection system further comprises

- an electric cable connectable to a second high voltage electric apparatus, - a cable terminal connector adapted for mounting on the electric cable,

- a connector interface plug forming an electric device electrically connectable to a second of the electrically connected joint branches of the cable joint module and adapted for providing electric connection to the cable terminal connector,

and that a third electrically connected joint branch of the cable joint module is electrically connected to a surge arrester located inside the housing of the cable joint module.

According to an additional feature, the electric device that is connectable to a first joint branch of the cable joint module comprises a wall bushing. The high voltage eiectric apparatus may for example be a transformer or a switchgear such as a gas insuiated switchgear.

According to further aspects of the present invention are defined a use of an apparatus connection system according to any one of the claims defining such a system, for electrically connecting a transformer forming a first high voitage electric apparatus to a gas insulated switchgear forming a second high voltage apparatus via respective electrically connected joint branches of the high voltage multiple cable joint module, and a use of an apparatus connection system according to any one of claims 1-4 for electrically connecting a transformer forming a first high voltage electric apparatus to a gas insulated switchgear forming a second high voltage apparatus, and further electrically connecting a surge arrester forming a third high voltage electric apparatus via respective electrically connected joint branches of the high voltage muitiple cable joint module.

Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of the invention.

Detailed description of the invention

In Fig. 1 Is illustrated an apparatus connection system according to the present invention, comprising a high voltage multiple cable joint module 1 , an electric cable 20, a cable terminal connector 22 adapted to be mounted on the cable, and a connector interface plug 24. The cable 20, the cable terminal connector 22 and the connector interface plug 24 are preferably standardized components, available as such on the market. The apparatus connection system is adapted for connecting high voltage electric apparatuses 50, 52, 54, 60, to each other via the high voltage cable joint moduie 1 , by connecting the respective apparatus to the e!ectric device 24, 62 provided for this purpose in the cable joint module, see Figs. 1 and 5. A high voltage electric apparatus 28 may aiso be connected inside the moduie, see Fig. 2, 5,

The high voltage multipie cabie joint moduie 1 , illustrated by itself in Fig. 6 and in Figs. 1 , 2, 4 and 5 together with the other components of the system, comprises a housing 3 of a suitable material forming a conducting outer screen, and which housing is provided with connection points 15, 16, 17, 18 in its walls for connection of electric devices 24. The electric devices 24 may be both electrically and mechanically connected to the cable joint module at these connection points, inside the housing 3 of the cable joint module 1 are Iocated at Ieast three electrically connected joint branches 5, 6, 7, 8 to which said electric devices can be connected. In the variant of Fig.1 there are four joint branches, and it should be clear that more than four joint branches may be foreseen if for some reason desired. The joint branches comprise eiectricai conductors. The cabie joint module can be used for connecting several high voltage apparatuses to each other, by connecting each apparatus to the cabie joint module, thereby achieving a function corresponding to the prior art bus bars.

Connector interface plugs 24, constituting examples of electrical devices, are installed in at Ieast some of the connection points 15, 16, 17, 18 of the housing and they are electrically connected to respective eiectricaiiy connected joint branches 5, 6, 7 inside the cable joint moduie housing 1. in the illustrated example of Fig. 1 , three connector interface plugs 24 are installed in the housing 1 through the connection points 15, 16, 17 and they are electrically connected to respective branches 5, 6, 7 of the cable joint module, and they are thereby also electrically interconnected. As can also be seen from Fig. 1 , if a connection point 18 is not used for installation of an electrical apparatus, it can be plugged by a suitable cover.

Inside the housing 3 is an empty space 10, which is filled with a dielectric filling compound 12 for insulation purposes, for example a gel such as a polymeric gel or any other suitable type of gel, a rubber compound such as RTV rubber or similar, an insulating oil, or any other type of suitable medium. Preferably, the dielectric filling compound is of a type that can adopt a liquid form suitable for pouring into the housing, where it will then be allowed to or made to set or solidify into a gel or a more solid form.

The electric cable 20 is a cable suitable to connect to a high voltage electric apparatus, which in the illustrated example are three electric apparatuses. It may be a high voltage cable of standardized type. The cable end is provided with a cable terminal connector 22, preferably also of a standard type available on the market. This cable terminal connector 22 is of the type that can be plugged into the connector interface plug 24 installed in a connection point of the cable joint module, thereby electrically connecting any high voltage electric apparatus, which is connected to the cable, to any other high voltage electric apparatus that is also electrically connected to the cable joint module and the system. The used cable terminal connector 22 and the used connector interface plug 24 therefore are preferably of a mutually adapted and cooperating type which allows a high voltage electric apparatus to be plugged into the cable joint module in a very simple and straightforward way, as plug and play. The high voltage electric apparatuses that may be electrically connected to the cable joint module can for example be transformers, gas insulated switchgear, surge arresters, capacitors, etc.

In Fig. 2 is shown a variant of the apparatus connection system of Fig. 1. In this example only two high voltage electric apparatuses are externally connected to the cable joint module via connector interface plugs 24, and branches 5 and 7. To the third branch 6 is electrically connected an electric device which in this case is a surge arrester 28, and this surge arrester is located inside the housing 3, and is thus integrated in the housing. Alternatively, other electric devices may be electrically connected inside the housing, such as for example a capacitor, etc.

In Fig. 3 is shown an example of a cable terminal connector 22 and an example of a connector interface plug 24, in more detail. The cable terminal connector 22 is made of for example rubber material, and it comprises an inner conducting electrode 32 surrounded by electrical insulation 34, an outer conducting layer 36 and an external metallic protection 30. In order to electrically connect the high voltage cable 20 to the cable terminal connector, the outer conducting layer 21 of the cable is removed a defined distance from the cable end, according to standard practice. At the end of the cable terminal connection that is opposite the end where the cable 20 is connected, the cable terminal connector has an opening 37 adapted to receive and connect the connector interface plug 24.

The connector interface plug 24 comprises a conductor 40 in order to transfer the current, and it also comprises a dielectric material 42 in order to control the voltage, and forming a plug body. The plug body of the dielectric material has in the illustrated example a generally conical shape, or the shape of a truncated cone, at both its ends, in order to facilitate the installation in the cable joint housing, at the connection points 15, 16, 17, 18, and also the insertion into the cable termination connector 22, which has a corresponding internal recess 38 forming a socket and adapted to receive the connector interface plug 24. The conductor 40 of the connector interface plug 24 has a conductor connection 44 by means of which it may be electrically connected to a corresponding conductor connection on the conductor of a joint branch 5, 6, 7, 8 of the cable joint module. This may be adapted to the actual application, e.g. transformer, gas insulated switchgear or other apparatus. The conductor of the cable 20 is connected inside the cable terminal connector to the connector interface plug conductor 40 by using a conductor connector 39, such as a press, weld or screw connection.

As mentioned, the cable terminal connector 22 and the connector interface plug 24 illustrated in Fig. 3 are only examples, and the present invention is not limited to the illustrated examples since also other types of cable terminal connectors and connector interface plugs are possibie to use in the implementation of the present invention. For example the geometrical shapes of cooperating surfaces may be different.

When the cable joint module 1 is manufactured, normally the electric devices 24 such as the connector interface plugs are first installed in the housing 3, at the connection points 15, 16, 17, 18, together with any possible electric apparatus that is to be located inside the housing. Then the cable joint branches 5, 6, 7, 8 are mounted inside the housing, by connecting them to the electric devices 24 or any possible electric apparatus already installed in the housing. Then follows filling of the remaining empty space in the housing 3 with the dielectric filling compound 12, and the housing is closed.

The dielectric filling compound will then be made to set or solidify before the cable joint module is ready for use.

Fig. 4 shows schematically a variant of an apparatus connection system according to the present invention, comprising a multiple cable joint module 1 with three connector interface plugs 24, being installed and used for electrical connection of a transformer 50, a gas insulated switchgear 52 and a third high voltage electric apparatus 54, for example a surge arrester, a capacitor or other.

Finally, Fig. 5 shows schematically a high voltage electric apparatus 60, such as a transformer or a gas insulated switchgear, according to another aspect of the present invention. It comprises an apparatus connection system according to the present invention, adapted for electric connection of at least two high voltage electric apparatuses, of which the illustrated high voltage electric apparatus 60 is a first high voltage electric apparatus. This first high voltage electric apparatus is provided with an electric device 62, such as a wall bushing, that is electrically connectabie to a first joint branch 5 of the cable joint module 1 and adapted for connection at one of the connection points 15.

The system in Fig. 5 further comprises a connector interface plug 24 forming an electric device electrically connectabie to a second of the electrically connected joint branches 7 of the cable joint module and adapted for providing electric connection to a cable terminal connector 22 on a cable 20 connected to a second high voltage electric apparatus (not shown). Further, a third electrically connected joint branch 6 of the cable joint module 1 is electrically connected to a surge arrester 28 forming an electric device located inside the housing 3 of the cable joint module 1.

The present invention is not limited to the disclosed examples, but may be modified in many ways that would be apparent to the skilled person, within the scope of the appended claims.
