Abstract:
An apparatus for filling containers (C) with viscous food product includes a plurality of fill heads (32) positioned above containers (C). Each head includes a plenum through which is disposed a valve stem (358) having a boss (370) at the lower end. The boss (370) is biased into contact with a lower end face of a lower end face of the housing by a spring. Attached over the lower end of the head (32) is a sealing pad assembly which contacts a container rim (B) when a press bar (358) exerts a downward pressure on the upper end of the valve stem (358). Further motion of the press bar (458) is halted by contact with a rim (B) causes the valve stem (358) to be displaced downwards against the force of the spring causing the boss (370) to extend outwardly from the housing seat. This forms an opening (502) around the lower ends of the valve stem grooves, thus enabling food product supplied to the head (32) to flow into the container (C).
