Abstract:
An apparatus for machining a magnetic tape comprising an optical system for projecting one or more laser beams to a predetermined machining position, means for carrying a magnetic tape while positioning the magnetic tape in the machining position with the back layer thereof directed toward the incident side of the laser beam, and means for forcedly removing the machining powder or gas generated on the back layer in the machining position from the back layer side. The forced removing means includes a combination of a path changing means for changing the path of the magnetic tape and a gas suction means, a suction means on the back layer side of magnetic tape, a combination of a means for changing the gas stream over the surface of the back layer, the chamber, and a suction means thereof, and a combination of a gas blowing means and a suction means. The machining apparatus produces a magnetic tape having excellent characteristics with good manufacturing efficiency while suppressing cupping without generating any slip even if the carrying speed is increased and can supply the magnetic tape stably while suppressing adverse effect of machining on the work environment extremely.
