Abstract:
A method for correcting the output characteristics of an in-cylinder pressure sensor cannot attain a sufficient correction accuracy because a reference pressure used for the correction is measured when an intake valve or an exhaust valve is open, although a measurement range required for detecting a maximum in-cylinder pressure or an ignition timing is in a high pressure region during an in-cylinder combustion period, thereby leaving the reference pressure out of the measurement range.
An apparatus for measuring the in-cylinder pressure comprises an exhaust pressure detection means provided in the exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine so as to measure the exhaust pressure in the exhaust passage, an exhaust pressure recording means for recording the time history of a measured exhaust pressure, and a maximum exhaust pressure detection means for detecting the maximum value of an exhaust pressure for each pulsation period from the time history of an exhaust pressure thus recorded, wherein the maximum value of an in-cylinder pressure is calculated for each combustion period using the maximum exhaust pressure thus detected, and the maximum value of an in-cylinder pressure thus calculated is used as a reference pressure.
