Abstract:
Provided are an apparatus and a method for cooling and charging an overheated battery, which, when a battery consisting of multiple cells connected in series is overheated, enable the battery to be charged with a constant current by controlling a pulse width according to the temperature of the battery. The apparatus for cooling and charging an overheated battery sets a charging mode to one of a constant current charging mode, a constant voltage charging mode, and a cooling charging mode, on the basis of the temperature and voltage of the battery; charges the battery on the basis of a charge signal comprising a non-charging section and a charging section and of the charging mode; sets the charge mode to the cooling charging mode if the temperature of the battery is equal to or greater than a preset temperature; and changes a pulse width of the charging section according to the change in the temperature of the battery.
