Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for the horizontal molding of vehicle interior components, the apparatus comprising: a means for preheating the skin layer material; a transfer means provided with a fixture for vertically transferring the preheated skin layer material; a first mold installed vertically on the ground surface; a second mold, which is installed parallel to the first mold, and into which the injection-molding base material is injected; and a means for horizontally moving either the first or second mold so as to combine or separate one from the other. The first mold comprises: a means for securely holding the skin layer material transferred via the transfer means via vacuum, which is applied to the edge thereof, so as to fix the skin layer material; a base member having an embossed pattern formed thereon, which is to be transferred to the skin layer material; a fixture for clamping the edge of the skin layer material to seal the internal space formed between the skin layer material and the base material; and a vacuum hole for vacuum-molding the skin layer material onto the base material. According to the present invention, the skin layer material and base material can be integrally molded in a horizontally operated mold; the skin layer material sheet, which is stretched in the preheating process, can be prevented from sagging downward due to the weight thereof; and by completely sealing the skin layer material, the same can be prevented from becoming overlapped or wrinkled.
