Abstract:
According to at least one embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is an apparatus and method for implementing haptic-based networked virtual environments which support high-resolution tiled displays, which: senses a collision between a haptic device user and each of one or more virtual objects in the virtual environments; performs a haptic rendering process of providing the haptic device with a physical force corresponding to a result of the sensing, while converting each of the virtual objects, which are three dimensional data, into object streams which are two dimensional data to be displayed on two dimensional space; performs a graphic rendering process of allocating each of the converted object streams with a priority and a frame rate according to predetermined allocation criteria; and displays display images including background pixels and the object streams of the virtual objects through a plurality of displays (a tiled display unit). Thus, it is possible to efficiently implement virtual environments in which the haptic device user can be further visually immersed and also can be tactilely immersed in utilization of limited resources.
