Abstract:
An apparatus and method to provide a persistent identifier of information (222) that may be located in multiple locations (208, 310), formats (201, 202, 203, 204), and accessible in variable fashions based on the context of use. The present disclosure further provides the ability to associate a single identifier with information available, and accessible under varying conditions, from varying locations (208, 310), in varying formats (201, 202, 203, 204), based on various contexts of access. The present disclosure further teaches an enhanced digital object identifier, an enhanced handle system, and enhanced directory registry that facilitate the access and association of information over a communications network.
