An apparatus and a method for testing a liquid crystal panel (100). The test apparatus comprises a first test unit (1) connected to a data line of the liquid crystal panel (100), a second test unit (2) connected to a scanning line of the liquid crystal panel (100), and a signal generator (3) separately connected to the first test unit (1) and the second test unit (2). Both the first test unit (1) and the second testing unit (2) comprise a wiring region (10) and connecting ports (20) disposed at one side of the wiring region (10) and connected to the signal generator (3). Multiple circuits are disposed in the wiring region (10). Among the multiple circuits, circuits disposed at one end and having same property are connected together, and are corresponding to the connecting ports (20) in a one-to-one manner. Multiple circuits disposed at the other end are correspondingly connected to signal wires disposed on the liquid crystal panel (100). By means of the test apparatus and the testing method, the switching of light-on test modes of the liquid crystal panel (100) is implemented, the detection capability of the liquid crystal panel (100) is improved, the area occupied by the circuits on the liquid crystal panel (100) is reduced, and further, the competitive strength of the liquid crystal panel (100) is improved.
