Abstract:
An apparatus for forming can ends or closure blanks. The apparatus comprises an upper tool (10) for pressing a sheet of metal against a lower tool (20). The lower tool (20) is a cut edge tool, which has raised shear points (22) for cutting a blank of metal out of the sheet. The apparatus further comprises one or more sensors (25), each of which is axially aligned with a shear point (22) and monitors the force applied to the metal at those points (22).
