Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/142032
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Invention relates to ah apparatus filling cavities in the brain with air for prevention of complications such as accumulation of fluid in cavities developing in brain post brain surgery, bleeding, sudden brain collapsing, and used for gradual discharge when required. The air sent with pressure control from an air tank (1) is then discharged from the balloon (11) again in controlled way and gradually. After the cavity in the brain is fully filled or closed adequately, the air in the balloon (11) is completely discharged and is removed without need for an extra surgery.

Description:
AN APPARATUS PREVENTING COMPLICATIONS THAT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY

CAVITIES IN BRAIN

Technical Field

Invention relates to an apparatus filling cavity in the brain with air for prevention of complications such as accumulation of fluid in cavities developing in brain post brain surgery, bleeding, sudden brain collapsing, and used for gradual discharge when required.

Present State of the Art

Main component of treatment of diseases occurring in brain due to bleeding of great volume, cyst, tumour etc. is the removal of formations causing diseases. However, removal of such big volume occurrences causes development of cavities of big diameters in brain. The cavities developing there are generally filled either by brain tissue released from pressure or blood members or brain fluid. Return of brain tissue into its former form or collapse of normal brain tissue under effect to gravity on the cavity in the brain causes compression of brain, brain bleedings, accumulation of fluids between brain tissue and brain requiring surgery and sudden death caused by sudden expansion of brain. New bleedings may also occur from emptying part into such cavities. In current applications developing cavity is filled with serum and the hose placed in the cavity is used to discharge the fluid given thereto and bleeding fluid likely to accumulate. However, collapse of brain into cavity, secondary blood and fluid accumulation can not be prevented.

As a result, due to above described disadvantages and inadequacy of existing solutions it has been necessary to make development in the related art.

Purpose of the Invention

With the apparatus of the invention, a balloon filled with sterile air is placed into the cavity occurring as a result of brain surgical surgery during surgery at appropriate pressure and volume, pressure and volume is reduced in a controlled way after surgery and the apparatus is removed is removed after a certain time period without need for a second surgery. With the apparatus, not only collapse of brain into cavity but also accumulation of blood and fluid between brain membrane and brain is prevented.

The structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the invention will be understood better in the figures given below and the detailed description by reference to the figures. Therefore, the assessment should be made based on the figures and considering the detailed descriptions.

In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the invention have been described in a manner not forming any restrictive effect and only for purpose of better understanding of the matter.

With help of apparatus shown in Figure 1 , complications such as fluid accumulation, bleeding, sudden brain collapse occurring as a result of cavity developing after removal/discharge of the mass in the brain, bleeding or cysts A balloon (1 1 ) of preferably 50-500 cm3 depending on cavity developing in brain is placed. Sterile air to be filled into the balloon (1 1 ) is stored in an air tank (1 ). Pressure of air to be sent to the balloon (1 1 ) and therefore volume of balloon (1 1 ) can be adjusted by means of a tank valve (2). A tank valve (2) and a pressure indicator (4) are placed on the tank pipe (3) placed onto outlet of the air tank (1 ). Said pressure indicator (4) shows pressure of air in tank pipe (3). The air coming from tank pipe (3) passes through the inlet pipe (7) connected to the balloon (1 1 ).

As shown in Figure 1 and Figure 3, said apparatus comprises front part (A) and rear part Έ). Apparatus can be separated into two and re-combined by help of an intermediate part (6) connecting tank pipe (3) and inlet pipe (7). Intermediate part (6) also has a disconnection valve (5) located thereon and controlling air flow in the intermediate part (6). For use of the apparatus, firstly the balloon (1 1 ) in front part (A) is placed into the cavity in the brain (1 1 ). Then rear part (B) and front part (A) are combined by means of an intermediate part (6).

A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises an outlet pipe (8) wherein air in the balloon (1 1 ) is discharged and a discharge valve (9) located on the outlet pipe (8) and controlling pressure of the air to be discharged. Protection of pipes (7, 8) connected to the balloon (1 1 ) is provided by help of pipe casing (10) through which pipes (7, 8) are passing.

Air flow is provided from the air tank (1 ) in the amount adjusted from pressure indicator (4) after connection of front part (A) and rear part (B) for filling the balloon (1 1 ) with sterile air. Disconnection valve (5) should be open and discharge valve (9) if there is an outlet pipe (8) should be close for accumulating air in the balloon (1 1 ). When physician thinks that the air in the balloon (1 1 ) is appropriate, s/he removes the rear part (B) and turns off disconnection valve (5) and provides trapping of air between the balloon (1 1 ) and intermediate part (6). For gradual discharge of air in the balloon (1 1 ), front part (A) and rear part (B) are mounted to each other and tank valve (2) is closed and pressure found appropriate by the physician is measured from the pressure indicator (4) and discharge valve (9) is opened and release of air in the desired volume is provided. Although air pressure is not measured, by use of front part (A) alone, the disconnection valve (5) or discharge valve (9) is opened and air in the balloon (1 1 ) can be discharged. This surgery is performed gradually on the days found appropriate by the physician.
