Abstract:
Provided is an apparatus for printing on a plate material, the apparatus being able to set a printing area wherein the protruding of a plate material such as an as-rolled steel plate is controlled. An apparatus (1) for printing on both sides of a steel plate is provided with: a printer (7) for printing on a steel plate (27) fed into a printing region (39); a steel plate detection member (20) for detecting whether or not the steel plate (27) is present; and a control unit (45) for controlling the printing operation of the printer (7). The control unit (45) is provided with a printing area setting mode (46) wherein positional information is acquired about edges that intersect the edge at the side from which printing is started, printing in which the steel plate detection member (20) performs detection, and about two detection points that are respectively spaced apart on the edges, and the printing area of the steel plate (27) is set using a center-point line as a reference in the width direction, the center-point line being formed by connecting: edge detection points that are close to edges; edge detection points that are distant from edges and distant from the center point of the edge detection points; and the center point of the edge detection points.
