Abstract:
An apparatus for separating a concentrate and a suspended solid matter by freezing/thawing with which the concentrate can be easily produced. The apparatus has a simple structure especially due to the use of a cold heat medium and a warm heat medium which are the same fluid but differ in temperature. The apparatus comprises a freezing/thawing tank, a freezing/thawing device disposed therein which has, in an inner part thereof, a passage through which a cold heat medium or a warm heat medium flows, and a fluid-temperature controller for controlling the temperature of the fluid, the cold heat medium and the warm heat medium differing in temperature but being the same fluid. The freezing/thawing tank is filled with a liquid to be concentrated and/or a liquid from which a solid matter is to be separated, and the cold heat medium is passed through the passage. Thus, the liquid to be concentrated and/or liquid from which a solid matter is to be separated is frozen along the external structure of the freezing/thawing device to obtain frozen masses adherent to the external structure. The external structure has such a structure that the frozen masses have a specific surface area of 1.7 or larger. Thereafter, the warm heat medium is passed through the passage to thereby thaw the frozen masses. Thus, a concentrate and/or a solid matter is obtained.
