Abstract:
A lyophilization apparatus (100) has a receptacle (40) containing refrigerant such as liquid nitrogen enables a material (60) to be lyophilized when subjected to a suitable vacuum. The refrigerant essentially remains in the receptacle (40) during operation of the apparatus (100), providing a cold source and thus a high temperature differential with respect to the material (60) to provide fast and effective lyophilization, particularly of biological samples including blood.
