Abstract:
It is intended to provide an apparatus for treating an organic material and a method of treating an organic material whereby a solid phase packing in a solid phase reaction tank can be prevented from abrasion and the organic material can be stably treated. To achieve this object, a treatment for decomposing an organic material and a portion of the decomposition products thereof by using a terrestrial microorganism is conducted by a solid-liquid two phase circulation method wherein the organic material is successively passed through a solid phase reaction tank (10), in which the decomposition is performed by mixing a non-decomposable packing such as PET flakes as a solid phase packing, and a liquid phase reaction tank (20) in which the decomposition is performed by an aquatic microorganism. The constitution of this method is as follows: (A) a portion of the materials in the solid phase reaction tank having been treated in the solid phase reaction tank is transferred to the outside of the solid phase reaction tank (a washing and solid/liquid separation part (30)); (B) washing with a washing liquor components of the materials in the solid phase reaction tank, which has been transferred to the outside of the solid phase reaction tank, soluble in the liquid phase; (C) transferring the thus washed materials in the solid phase reaction tank to the solid phase reaction tank (C); (D)transferring the washing liquor after washing into the liquid phase reaction tank; and then (F and G) transferring the solid materials formed in the liquid phase reaction tank from the liquid phase reaction tank to the solid phase reaction tank.
