Description:
Applicator body dispensing machine

The present invention concerns an applicator body dispensing machine, intended to deliver individual cosmetic applicator bodies impregnated with at least one cosmetic product, comprising:

- a substrate roll comprising a substrate, the substrate being intended to be unrolled to form a plurality of applicator bodies;

- at least one cosmetic product tank, each cosmetic product tank containing a cosmetic product intended to be applied on the substrate;

- at least one cosmetic product dispensing element for dispensing cosmetic product on the substrate;

- an applicator body delivering mechanism.

Such an applicator body is applied on the skin of a user, in view of providing a cosmetic treatment to the skin of the user. In particular, the applicator body is intended for applying at least one cosmetic product on the skin of the user.

The applicator body is advantageously impregnated with at least one cosmetic product, such as a gel, a cream, oil, cosmetic water, milky lotion or powder.

A particular example of the cosmetic product is an anti-aging cream.

In the meaning of the present invention, a "cosmetic product" is a product such as defined in EC Regulation N ° 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council, dated November 30 th , 2009, in relation with cosmetic products.

The use of non-woven applicator bodies, such as face masks, wipes or pads, is well known.

For instance, a face mask is an applicator body which is cut in to the shape face with slits for eyes, nose and mouth and is impregnated with a cosmetic product depending on targeted functionality.

The functionality of such a face mask mainly depends on the activities used in the cosmetic product. Moisturisation, whitening and anti-aging are the most common functionalities for such a face mask.

The most common format of applicator bodies distribution is folded and impregnated substrate, packed in a single use sachet.

In some cases, applicator bodies are distributed in the format of a roll pack. Such a roll pack comprises a substrate roll with a plurality of applicator bodies of a predetermined shape, for example a plurality of face masks. A cosmetic product can be applied on such an applicator body after its detaching from the roll pack.

An example of a roll mask pack is known from WO 201 1 /145816 A2. This patent describes a roll mask pack including a stencil paper wound into a scroll shape and comprising a plurality of predetermined mask shapes. The stencil paper comprises also perforated lines running across its width for a manual separation of the mask. A cosmetic product or an essence is coated onto the mask with a plurality of essence-injection holes comprised in the roll mask pack.

This roll mask pack is not completely satisfactory. Indeed, this solution is not flexible. In particular it uses a stencil paper with mask shapes which are determined at the moment of its manufacturing.

Moreover, the mask needs to be separated from the pack manually.

US 2008/0035153 A1 describes a mask roll including a plurality of masks made of elastic non-woven fabric. The masks are connected successively to each other and wound around a core to make a roll.

US 2008/0241200 A1 describes a cosmetic system comprising a plurality of applicator bodies impregnated with a cosmetic product. The applicator bodies are contained in a common separate package such as a bag, box, can, basket or plastic jar.

One aim of the invention is to provide an applicator body dispensing machine delivering individual applicator bodies which is more flexible in use.

To this end, the invention concerns an applicator body dispensing machine as above mentioned, wherein:

- the machine comprises a applicator body shape cutting mechanism, intended to define a shape of the applicator body on the substrate;

- the applicator delivering mechanism being able to deliver a chosen number of individual cosmetic applicator bodies impregnated with cosmetic product out of the machine.

The applicator body dispensing machine according to the invention may comprise one or more of the following features, taken in isolation or according to any technical possible combination:

- the applicator body shape cutting mechanism comprises an outer shape cutting mechanism able to cut an outer contour of the applicator body from the substrate;

- the applicator body shape cutting mechanism comprises an inner shape cutting mechanism able to cut at least one inner cavity of the applicator body from the substrate;

- the substrate is rolled unfolded on the substrate roll;

- the substrate is rolled on the substrate roll with one fold;

- it comprises a downstream rolling mechanism able to roll the applicator body impregnated with cosmetic product;

- it comprises gripping rollers to unwound the substrate from the substrate roll and to deliver the substrate to the applicator body shape cutting mechanism; - the substrate comprises a water insoluble substrate, in particular a nonwoven substrate;

- it comprises at least two cosmetic product tanks with different cosmetic products and at least two dispensing elements, each dispensing element being connected to one cosmetic product tank containing a first cosmetic product without being connected to another cosmetic product tank containing a second cosmetic product;

- each dispensing element is adapted to apply the corresponding cosmetic product at a targeted zone of each applicator body;

- the substrate comprises diffusion barriers to define different targeted zones of the applicator body preventing the mixing of the different cosmetic products on the applicator body;

- the cosmetic product dispensing element comprises at least one spraying nozzle connected to at least one cosmetic product tank and able to apply the corresponding cosmetic product on the substrate without being in contact with the substrate;

- the applicator body shape cutting mechanism is able to cut the substrate in a mask shape having at least one openings for eyes, nose and/or mouth;

- it comprises a control unit able to be piloted by a user to form and to deliver a chosen number of individual applicator bodies via the delivering mechanism; and

- the applicator body shape cutting mechanism is able to make trimming lines on the substrate to define an outer trimming line of applicator body shape, and at least one inner trimming lines for eyes, nose and/or mouth.

The invention also concerns a process for making at least one individual cosmetic applicator body comprising:

- providing a machine as described above;

- delivering the substrate from the substrate roll to the applicator body shape cutting mechanism;

- defining an applicator body shape on the substrate;

- forming an individual applicator body from the substrate;

- applying at least one cosmetic product on the applicator body by the corresponding dispensing element;

- delivering the individual applicator body to the user.

The invention will be better understood, upon reading of the following description, taken solely as an example, in view of the appended drawings, in which:

- Figure 1 is a schematic view of an applicator body dispensing machine according to a first embodiment of the invention; - Figure 2 is a schematic view of an applicator body delivered by the machine of the Figure 1 ;

- Figure 3 is a schematic view of an applicator body dispensing machine according to a second embodiment of the invention; and

- Figure 4 is a schematic view of an applicator body dispensing machine according to a third embodiment of the invention.

An applicator body dispensing machine 10 according to a first embodiment of the invention is shown in figure 1 .

The machine 10 is intended to deliver individual cosmetic applicator bodies 12 impregnated with a cosmetic product 14.

Such a machine 10 is intended to beauty salon or home use by a specialist or an ordinary user.

The cosmetic product 14 is for example a gel, a cream, oil, cosmetic water, milky lotion or powder.

A "cosmetic product" is in particular, in the meaning of the present invention, a product such as defined in EC Regulation Ν ° 1223/200θ of the European Parliament and of the Council, dated November 30 th , 2009, in relation with cosmetic products.

The term "cosmetic product" is also used for a liquid substance comprising skin benefit compounds. The skin benefits agents includes in particular moisturizing agents, cleansing substances, anti-oxidants, cleansing agents, free radical scavengers, moisturizers, skin tone altering agents, anti-acne agents, anti-aging agents, anti-wrinkle- agents, anti-flammatory agents, skin texture treatment agents, anti-perspirant agents, asthetics, anti bacterial agents, nourishing agents, sebum and moisture absorbers and the combinations thereof is also targeted by adding the particular skin care actives.

Each delivered applicator body 12 is intended to be applied on a body surface of a user.

The body surface of the user is advantageously the skin of the user, in particular the skin located on a member of the user such as an arm or a leg, or preferably, the skin on the face of the user.

The shape of the applicator body 12 is defined by its outer contour which depends on its targeted functionality.

In a particular embodiment, the body applicator 12 is a face mask illustrated in figure 2. In this case, an outer contour 21 of the mask defines an oval shape. Alternatively, it defines a polygonal shape.

For such a face mask, the surface area of the oval shape is comprised between 0.25 cm 2 and 500 cm 2 , preferably between 200 cm 2 and 450 cm 2 . The oval is defined by a major axis A-A' and a minor axis B-B'. The inner length of the major axis A-A' corresponds to a major diameter denoted by D and the inner length of the minor axis B-B' corresponds to a minor diameter denoted by p.

Advantageously, the body applicator 12 comprises inner cavities.

For the mask shown in figure 2, such inner cavities comprises two through openings 22 intended to be placed facing the eyes of the user, and another through opening 24 intended to be placed facing the mouth of the user.

The mask also comprises a slit 26 delimiting a flapper 28 intended to be pushed away by the nose of the user, to delimit a nose insertion through opening.

In a variant, the slit 26 delimits a through opening without flapper 28.

In a variant, the oval shape of the face mask is completed with shapes facing the neck and/or ear hangings of the user.

In another variant, the applicator body 12 is formed into a patch or a garment having a volume, for example a sock, glove or sleeve.

The major axis A-A' is the axis of symmetry for the mask.

According to figure 1 , the machine 10 comprises a housing 40 and a push-button

42 situating out of the housing 40.

The machine 10 is able to deliverer an applicator body 12 impregnated with the cosmetic product 14 via an applicator body delivering mechanism 44 on each pushing of the push-button 42 by a user.

The applicator body 12 is obtained from the applicator body delivering mechanism

44 in open sheet form ready for an immediate utilization.

In the variant illustrated in figure 1 , the applicator body 12 is obtained from the applicator body delivering mechanism 44 in roll form. To this end, the machine 10 comprises a downstream rolling mechanism 46. An applicator body 12 in roll form permits to facilitate its application on the user's skin.

The housing 40 of the machine 10 also comprises a cosmetic product tank 50 containing the cosmetic product 14.

The cosmetic product 14 is intended to be applied on the applicator body 12 via a cosmetic product dispensing element 52 comprised also in the machine 10 and connected to the tank 50.

In a variant, the cosmetic product dispensing element 52 comprises a heating element able to heat the applied cosmetic product 14 to a determined temperature. The determined temperature is comprised for example between 32 °C and 45 °C. The cosmetic product dispensing element 52 comprises at least a nozzle 54 able to spray the cosmetic product 14 on the applicator body 12 without being in contact with the applicator body 12.

The amount of the cosmetic product 14 to be applied on the applicator body 12 is altered by changing the pressure of the nozzle 54.

The amount of the cosmetic product 14 to be applied is comprised par example between 200% and 400% of weight of the applicator body 12.

In a variant, the amount of the cosmetic product 14 to be applied is comprised between 400% and 600% of weight of the applicator body 12.

In a variant, the amount of the cosmetic product 14 to be applied is greater than 600% of weight of the applicator body 12.

The housing 40 of the machine 10 comprises also an applicator body shape cutting mechanism 60 intended to define a shape of the applicator body 12 on a substrate 62.

To this end, the shape cutting mechanism 60 comprises an inner shape cutting mechanism 64 and an outer shape cutting mechanism 66.

The inner shape cutting mechanism 64 is able to cut the inner cavities in the substrate 62.

In a variant, the inner shape cutting mechanism 64 is able to make trimming lines on the substrate 62 marking outer edges of the inner cavities without its separation from the substrate 62.

In this case, the inner cavities are made by the user thanks to the trimming lines. The outer shape cutting mechanism 66 is able to cut the outer contour 21 of the applicator body 12 from the substrate 62.

In a variant, the outer shape cutting mechanism 66 is able to make trimming lines on the substrate 62 marking outer edges of the outer contour without its separation from the substrate 62.

In this case, the delivering mechanism 44 is able to deliverer the applicator body 12 in form of a sheet of length D and width p. The shape defined by the outer contour 21 is able to be separated definitely from the substrate 62 by the user thanks to the trimming lines.

In another embodiment, the applicator body shape cutting mechanism 60 consists in a pair of rollers, one roller being placed above the other. The bottom roller is driven by a motor comprised in the housing 40 of the machine 10 and the upper roller is covered by cutting blade to cut the inner cavities and the outer contour 21 of the applicator body 12.

The substrate 62 is formed by a band of width p wound in a substrate roll 70. The substrate roll 70 is comprised in the housing 40 of the machine 10.

The housing 40 of the machine 10 comprises also gripping rollers 72 able to unroll the substrate 62 from the substrate roll 70 and to deliverer it to the cutting mechanism 60 in unrolled form.

Advantageously, the substrate 62 is water insoluble. By "water insoluble", it is meant that the substrate 62 does not dissolve or readily break apart upon immersion in water.

Advantageously, the substrate 62 comprises at least a fibrous layer. It comprises for example woven fibers, knitted fibers, non-woven fibers or/and a polymeric mesh.

Advantageously, the substrate 62 comprises fibrous layer non-woven fibers. In a preferred embodiment, the substrate 62 is made of a non-woven.

By "non-woven", it is meant, in the sense of this invention, a substrate including fibers in which the individual fibers or filaments are arranged in a disordered manner in a sheet-like structure and which are neither woven nor knit. The fibers of the nonwoven body are generally linked to one another, under the effect of a mechanical action (for example, by needle-punching, air jet, water jet, etc.), or under the effect of a thermal action, or by adding a binder.

Such a non-woven material is, for example, defined by standard ISO 9092, as a web or a sheet of fibers oriented directionally or at random, bound by friction and/or cohesion and/or adhesion, excluding paper or products obtained by weaving, knitting, tufting or stitching incorporating threads or bonding filaments.

A non-woven material differs from a paper by the length of the fibers used. In paper, the fibers are shorter. However, there are nonwoven materials based on cellulose fibers that are produced by wet process and have short fibers as in paper. The difference between a nonwoven material and a paper is generally the absence of a hydrogen bond between the fibers in a nonwoven material.

The fibers of the substrate 62 can be natural fibers, synthetic fibers or mixtures thereof. Non limiting examples of synthetic fibers are Polyester, Polyolefin (Polypropylene, Polyethylene), Polyamide (Nylon 6, Nylon 66), Viscose, Acrylic fibers, Modacrylic fibers, Poly vinylidene chloride and Spandex.

Example of natural fiber includes cellulosic fibers (such as wood pulp, cotton, hemp, jute, and flax fibers), silk, and keratin (such as wool and camel hair fibers).

The substrate 62 typically has a density of 30 g/m 2 to 400 g/m 2 , preferably 40 g/m 2 to 80 g/m 2 .

The housing 40 of the machine 10 comprises also a control unit 80 connected to the push-button 42 and piloted by the user. The control unit 80 is able to operate the gripping rollers 72, the cutting mechanism 60, the dispensing element 52 and the delivering mechanism 44 on each pushing of the push-button 42 in order to deliverer an applicator body 12.

In a variant, the control unit 80 comprises a programmable memory able to define a number of applicator bodies to be delivered automatically without pushing of the push- button 42. In this case, the rate of delivering of the applicator bodied is equal for example to 100 applicator bodies per 5 minutes.

As shown in figure 1 , the housing 40 of the machine contains the control unit 80, the substrate roll 70, the gripping rollers 72, the shape cutting mechanism 60, the cosmetic product tank 50, the dispensing element 52 and the application body delivering mechanism 44. All these elements are movable jointly with the housing 40 to form a single unit. The maximum dimension of the housing 40 is lower than 1000 x 1000 x 1000 mm.

A process for making at least one individual cosmetic applicator body 12 using the machine 10 of figure 1 will now be described.

Initially, the machine 10 is provided.

The user intending to apply an applicator body 12 to his or her skin or any other person intending to help the user to do it pushes the push-button 42.

The button 42 activates the control unit 80 which operates the gripping rollers to deliverer the substrate 62 from the substrate roll 70 to the cutting mechanism 60.

In the cutting mechanism 60, the control unit 40 operates the inner shape cutting mechanism 64 to cut the inner cavities corresponding to the applicator body 12 on the substrate 62.

Then, the control unit 40 operates the outer shape cutting mechanism 66 to cut the outer contour 21 corresponding to the applicator body 12 on the substrate 62.

Then, the control unit 40 operates the dispensing element 52 to apply the corresponding cosmetic product 14 on the applicator body 12.

The applicator body 12 is then delivered to the user by the delivering mechanism 44 in open sheet or in rolled form.

An applicator body dispensing machine 10 according to a second embodiment of the invention is shown in figure 3.

This machine 10 is intended to deliver individual cosmetic applicator bodies 12 impregnated with three different cosmetic products 141 , 142 and 143.

Each cosmetic product 141 , 142 and 143 is intended to be applied in a targeted zone of the applicator body 12.

According to a particular embodiment, the applicator body 12 is a triple action face mask of shape similar to the shape of the mask shown in figure 2. In this case, the cosmetic product 141 is for example an anti-oxidant compound and the corresponding targeted zone is the upper forehead of the user's face.

The cosmetic product 142 is for example an anti-ageing compound and the corresponding targeted zone is the eye region of the user's face.

The cosmetic product 143 is for example a protein hydrolysate compound and the corresponding targeted zone is the lower region of the user's face.

The only difference between the first and the second embodiments of the machine 10 is the number of cosmetic product tanks and cosmetic composition dispensing elements.

To this end, the machine 10 of figure 3 comprises three cosmetic composition tanks 151 , 152 and 153 containing respectively the cosmetic products 141 , 142 and 143.

This machine 10 comprises also three dispensing elements 161 , 162 and 163 connected respectively to the tanks 151 , 152 and 153.

Each dispensing element 161 , 162 or 163 comprises respectively a nozzle 171 , 172 or 173 able to spray the corresponding cosmetic product 141 , 142 or 143 on the corresponding targeted zone of the applicator body 12.

Each spraying nozzle 171 , 172 or 173 is located apart from the substrate. It has no contact with the substrate.

In order to avoid the mixing of the different cosmetic products the applicator body 12 or the substrate 62 comprises advantageously diffusion barriers, for instance physical barriers, to define different targeted zones.

The operation of the machine 10 of figure 3 differs from the operation of the machine 10 of figure 1 by the application of three different cosmetic products 141 , 142 and 143 on the different targeted zones of the applicator body 12 by the corresponding dispensing elements 161 , 162 and 163.

An applicator body dispensing machine 10 according to a third embodiment of the invention is shown in figure 4.

The only difference between the first and the third embodiments of the machine 10 is the width of the substrate 62.

According to the third embodiment, the substrate 62 is rolled on the substrate roll 70 with one fold. Hence, the width of the substrate band is equal to p/2. This permits to decrease the size of the housing 40.

In this case, the cutting mechanism 60 is adapted to cut or to make trimming lines only for one symmetrical part of the applicator body 12. The applicator body 12 is thus delivered to the user with one fold in roll or unrolled form. In the example of the face mask shown in figure 2, the substrate 62 is folded along the symmetrical axis A-A'.

The operation of the machine 10 of figure 4 differs from the operation of the machine 10 of figure 1 by the cutting only one symmetrical part of the applicator body 12 by the cutting mechanism 60 and the delivering of the applicator body 12 by the delivering mechanism 44 with one fold.
