This applied to battery comprises a housing and a plurality of cells provided inside the housing, and the constitution is such that during use operation occurs by pouring water into the housing. Each of a plurality of cells comprises: carbonized cloth constituting a positive electrode; a positive electrode extracting electrode electrically connected to the carbonized cloth; a salt-containing cloth provided so as to adhere to the carbonized cloth; a hydrophilic paper sheet provided so as to adhere to the salt-containing cloth; a metal plate provided so as to adhere to the paper sheet, constituting a negative electrode, and formed by a material with a higher ionization tendency than the positive electrode; negative electrode extracting electrodes electrically connected to the metal plate; and a compression cover member that attaches the carbonized cloth, positive electrode extracting electrode, salt-containing cloth, paper sheet, metal plate, and negative electrode extracting electrode to each other by pressure. The salt-containing cloth is constituted of a cloth with a plurality of layers of woven cotton cloth impregnated by salt.
