Abstract:
By means of bending only the front tip side of the arc forward towards the direction of advancement, the necessary amount of heat input to a workpiece is ensured while decreasing the wear of the nozzle tip, and welding speed is increased. Further, while avoiding increases in cost and device size, the disclosed technique is capable of adjusting the strength of the magnetic field of a welding unit. A magnetic field (B) is generated in a workpiece (W) in a direction perpendicular to the bonding direction in which a plasma torch (10) advances, and, by means of the Lorentz force (F) resulting from the magnetic field (B) and the current (I) between the plasma torch (10) and the workpiece (W), the front tip side of the arc (A) is bent forward in the advancing direction of the plasma torch (10) and welding is performed. In this case, arc welding is optimally performed in a state in which the workpiece (W) is fixed to a non-magnetic base (32) and clamp (34). Further, the magnetic field strength of the welding unit is adjusted by means of changing the relative positions of the plasma torch (10) and a butt portion of the workpiece (W).
