Abstract:

This area light source device comprises a housing, a substrate, a light-emitting device, and a light-diffusing plate. The housing has an inclined surface which is inclined to become closer to the light-diffusing plate with increasing distance from an optical axis. In a cross section including the optical axis, the luminous intensity of light which is emitted from the light-emitting device and of which the angle with respect to the optical axis has the absolute value of from 0 to 60° is not more than 1.5% with respect to the maximum luminous intensity of light emitted from the light-emitting device. In the cross section including the optical axis, when, of an angular range in which light of a luminous intensity of not less than 70% of the maximum luminous intensity is emitted, the absolute value of the maximum angle with respect to the optical axis is θ, an output surface is disposed so as to intersect a straight line of which the major angle, among the angles formed by the optical axis and a straight line passing a bottom surface-side end portion of the inclined surface and intersecting the optical axis, is not less than θ.
