Abstract:
An aromatic polyamide film characterized in that the number of projections having a height of at least one surface of 20 nm to less than 50 nm is 103-106/mm2, and in that the number of projections having a height of 50 nm to less than 100 nm is 0-3 x 104. A method of manufacturing aromatic polyamide films from a solution prepared by adding a particle-containing slurry, which is obtained by dispersing particles of 10-300 nm in diameter into a liquid medium of at most 10 P in viscosity, to an aromatic polyamide solution so that the amount of addition of the particles accounts for 0.005-4.5 wt.% of the aromatic polyamide, characterized in that a relative standard deviation of the diameter of the particles is set to be at most 0.8, and in that in initial filtrability index Q1 of the particle-containing slurry and a filtrability index Q2 attained after 500 ml of the liquid has passed satisfy the following relationship: Q2/Q1 0.3. This film can be suitably used for a flexible printed board, a capacitor and a printer ribbon. Since the output characteristics and durability of this film are compatible at high levels, the film is suitable, especially for an external memory for a magnetic recording medium, especially a computer in which a high density and a high accuracy are required, and a tape for a digital video.
