Title:
ARTICLE MADE OF POROUS CARBONACEOUS MATERIAL AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1995/002451
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The proposed article, consisting of a porous carbonaceous material (fig. 1), is produced by extruding a soft carbonaceous paste through a die, the paste consisting of 30-60 % dispersed carbon, a solvent and 2-10 % of a carbon-containing binder. Extrusion takes place at a pressure of 20-60 kg/cm2 and the article thus formed is then heat treated, firstly, in a non-oxidizing environment in the presence of hydrocarbons, the ratio of carbon and hydrogen being 0.25-1.0, until the mass of the article has increased by 20-200 %, and subsequently in an active environment. According to the invention, the article is produced from three-dimensionally homogeneous carbon with a mesoporous structure and maximum pore-size distributions in the 100-2,000 and 20-100 ranges. For each article, the ratio of the outer surface geometry to the volume of material is 4-100 m-1, the ratio of the thickness of the dividing walls between the channels and the outer walls is 1:2 - 1:10, and the unit surface area is 100-2,000 m2/g.
