Provided is an article management system, with which it is possible to suppress radio wave interference among a plurality of reader devices, and to more reliably and more rapidly read RFID tags of a plurality of articles. An article management system according to the present invention comprises a plurality of reader devices which read RFID tags which have been attached to articles, and a central terminal. The central terminal segments an article management area into a plurality of medium areas, further segments each of the medium areas into a plurality of small areas, and in the plurality of medium areas, causes reader devices that have been positioned in two or more of the small areas to operate in a predetermined sequence for each small area and read in information from the RFID tags. The range of a radio wave interference distance assumed for the reader devices, which have been positioned in a first medium area, partially overlaps with a second medium area, and when the reader devices which have been positioned in the first medium area are caused to operate in sequence, the reader devices in the second medium area which are positioned outside the range of the radio wave interference distance of the reader devices operating in the first medium area are caused to operate.
