Provided is an article pickup control system which in a collective pickup direction scheme, can prevent an operator from forgetting about picking up an article or from picking up an article twice or more even when the operator's work is interrupted. The article pickup control system includes a control section and a plurality of pickup directing devices, each device having a display means to operate in response to an output direction from the control section and an input means for sending input information to the control section. The control system also includes a storage means for storing the input information from the plurality of pickup directing devices to which the output direction was issued, with a plurality of any of the output directions grouped into one group. Until the input information is acquired from all the plurality of pickup directing devices that constitute the group, an indication on the display means of the pickup directing device that has acquired the input information is distinguishable from the indication responsive to the output direction. When the input information has been acquired from all the plurality of pickup directing devices constituting the group, the group is determined to have been completely processed.
