Abstract:

An article storage facility, wherein the width between moving routes of a pair of stacker cranes is made small as much as possible to make the facility compact, wherein the facility is constructed as simple as possible, and wherein the facility has enhanced article processing ability. A required spacing distance is set as a spacing distance which a pair of stacker cranes (3a, 3b) can move and pass each other without interference. A control means is adapted to perform processing by which a pair of ascending and descending bodies (UD) is allowed to ascend and descend while avoiding interference with each other in interference avoiding ascending and descending operation which is different from ascending and descending operation performed in article conveying operation. The above processing causes both the pair of ascending and descending bodies (UD) to ascend and descend to ascended and descended positions at which the pair is adapted to pass each other and which are separated from each other in the ascending and descending direction by more than or equal to the required spacing distance.
