Abstract:
An artificial leather which comprises a base layer and a surface layer formed on one surface of the base layer. The base layer comprises a polymeric elastomer and fiber bundles comprising a plurality of ultrafine long fibers. The surface layer comprises ultrafine long fibers or comprises ultrafine long fibers and a polymeric elastomer. The surface layer satisfies the relationship X/Y≥1.5 (wherein X is the number of cut ends of the ultrafine long fibers which are present in the range of from the surface to a depth of 20 µm therefrom in any section of the artificial leather; Y is the number of cut ends of the ultrafine long fibers which are present in the range of from the surface to a depth of 20 µm therefrom in a section perpendicular to that section; and X>Y), thereby enabling the artificial leather to exhibit a sufficient sense of gloss without requiring coating with a metallic powder pigment or the like.
