Abstract:

An artificial leather being composed of an entangled fiber material and an polymeric elastomer and excellent in expandability, characterized in that it exhibits an elongation percentage in the longitudinal direction of 15 % or more and an elongation recovery in the longitudinal direction of 80 % or more&semi and a method for producing the artificial leather, which comprises integrating a fiber web and a shrinkable sheet, attaching a polymeric elastomer to the integrated sheet, subjecting the resulting sheet to a shrinking treatment, and then removing the shrinkable sheet. The artificial leather exhibits excellent expandability, in particular, excellent expandability in the longitudinal direction which has not been achieved by a conventional artificial leather, without lowering the surface quality thereof.
