Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a technology with which the performance of components of an artificial lung can be examined in a unified manner and with which the artificial lung, which is capable of exhibiting a comprehensively excellent performance, is designed and evaluated. Provided is an artificial lung which comprises a gas exchanger unit having an external perfusion-type hollow fibre membrane bundle for gas exchange and comprises a heat exchanger unit having heat exchange elements. The artificial lung measures gas exchange performance, a heat exchange performance coefficient, the amount of blood filled, and blood-side pressure loss and calculates Fp = (gas exchange performance × heat exchange performance coefficient) / (amount of blood filled × blood-side pressure loss). The value of Fp is 1.5-2.5.
