Abstract:
An artificial lung (10) comprises a first hollow fiber membrane layer (90) that is obtained by winding a first hollow fiber membrane (88). The first hollow fiber membrane layer (90) has a first typical density layer (94) and a first high density layer (96) which is provided to an outer peripheral part of the first typical density layer (94) and in which the first hollow fiber membrane (88) is wound at a higher density than in the first typical density layer (94). A housing (12) which houses the first hollow fiber membrane layer (90) has an outer peripheral wall (48) that extends in an axial direction and surrounds the first high density layer (96). Between the outer peripheral wall (48) and the first high density layer (96) is formed a first blood outflow space (98) which enables blood circulation along the axial direction.
