Provided are an authentication system, an authentication requesting device, an on-board electronic device, a computer program, and an authentication processing method that can be expected to more securely and reliably perform authentication processing. An inspection device transmits, to a server device, a request to generate an authenticator. The server device, having received the authenticator generation request, generates an authenticator that includes validity period information, attaches an electronic signature to the generated authenticator, and transmits the authenticator thereof to the inspection device. The inspection device, having received the authenticator from the server device, transmits, to a gateway, the authenticator to which the electronic signature has been added. If the electronic signature attached to the authenticator is correct, and the authenticator falls within the included validity period, the gateway, having received the authenticator from the inspection device, performs authentication processing with respect to the inspection device.
