Abstract:
The invention relates to a novel apparatus for solar tracking which does not require electrical devices for operation. The apparatus is wind-powered, operating day and night and even in changing or intermittent winds. One of the features of the apparatus is that it does not depend on an electricity source and can therefore be used in remote areas. The apparatus comprises a temperature sensor consisting of two parabolic troughs, an absorber tube containing a thermally expandable fluid being disposed at the focal line of each. The sensor provides a signal for the pressure differential between the two tubes, which signal indicates the direction of incidence of the sunrays and is transmitted to a hydraulic wind-powered circuit for moving the sensor and solar units together in the direction corresponding to the signal. The apparatus can be used for single-axis tracking in any position or for dual-axis tracking for complete tracking. The apparatus is characterised in that it has simple components and is easy to assemble, which makes same easy to produce with limited technology, thereby facilitating the deployment of the apparatus in worldwide, even in developing countries, thus expanding the use of renewable energy.
