Abstract:
If fault identification means (10) determines that a detection unit (7) for detecting the shift range selected by a shift selection unit (6) has failed, a diversion means (12) sends an instruction to automatic gear-change means (9) to divert to a forward gear stage that is not engaged with a first frictional engagement element that engages with prescribed forward and reverse gear stages. In this manner, a reverse gear-change stage is prevented from being formed even if the reverse range is inadvertently selected when the detection unit (7) has failed. As a result, reverse inhibition control can be achieved even if the detection unit (7) that detects the shift range selected by the shift selection unit (6) fails, and this is achieved by means of a structure which does not employ a cut-off valve.
