Title:
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAIL-OVER USING IP-MUTICAST
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2001030023
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A data source supplies data to a primary and stand-by data transmitter. The stand-by data transmitter and a data receiver are members of the same IP multicast group which receives data via multicast messages from the primary transmitter. The stand-by transmitter recognizes when the multicast data does not arrive as scheduled and immediately starts to transmit data as a replacement. Thus, fail-over recognition and redirection are provided for data transmitters simply utilizing IP multicasting capabilities without the need for special protocols, watchdog processes or status messages. With the addition of positive acknowledgment messages over a private IP multicast group, redundant data receivers are also implemented which rely on non-specialized IP multicasting.
