Title:
AUTOMATIC, VARIABLE-FLOW SANDING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2005005218
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
The invention relates to an automatic, variable-flow sanding device for rail motor vehicles. One of the recurring problems associated with rail transport is low wheel/rail adhesion which causes wheelslip under certain running conditions. The invention relates to a device which can be used to discharge a sufficient, controlled quantity of sand onto the rails and in front of the drive wheels in order to prevent wheelslip, while the rails continue to be shunted by the axles. The device consists of a mechanically-welded assembly comprising a built-in pneumatic flow amplifier (15) which is submerged in the sand contained in the sand box (3) and which is supplied with variable-pressure compressed air by means of a proportional electrovalve (146). Moreover, said proportional electrovalve is in turn controlled by a variable current that is generated by an electronic computer (150) containing a programmed, adjustable diagram which is adapted according to the characteristics of the motor vehicles comprising same.
