Abstract:
An automobile exhaust gas cleaning catalyst metal carrier superior in durability having a thermal fatigue resistance capable of withstanding high-temperature, high-speed exhaust gas flows and rapid heating and cooling and also superior in cleaning performance. The automobile exhaust gas cleaning catalyst metal carrier includes a metal honeycomb body formed by superposing a flat metal foil and a corrugated metal foil and spirally rolling them up, and a metal sleeve surrounding them, wherein the free flat foil used at the start of rolling up the metal foils and extending radially or chord-wise of the cylindrical hollow portion of the honeycomb body is subjected to such a treatment as being hollowed out for removal by axially machining or being pressed to extend along the innermost peripheral portion of the honeycomb body, the honeycomb body satisfying the relation, $g(F)B $m(F) 10 / 100 x $g(F)A where $g(F)A is the outer diameter and $g(F)B is the inner diameter.
