Abstract:
An automobile strengthening member which is light in weight and superior in axial crushing performance and has high bending strength performance is provided. Also provided is a strengthening member which will not crack even when a high strength steel sheet is used. An automobile strengthening member (1) having a notches (3) at four corners in a basic rectangular section (2), in a long form having a crisscross closed section as a whole, is characterized in that the sheet thickness at the notches (3) is 5-30% greater than that of other portions than the notches, i.e., a side wall (4) and a top wall (5). Further, an automobile strengthening member (1) characterized in that the hardness at the notches (3) is 5% greater than that of other portions than the notches, i.e., the side wall (4) and the top wall (5). Further, an automobile strengthening member wherein the strengthening member (1) is formed by drawing or hydroform process.
