Abstract:
Provided is an electric vacuum cleaner (11) that is capable of efficient autonomous travel. The electric vacuum cleaner (11) comprises a main body case, a drive wheel, a map-generating unit (67), an own position estimating means (73), an information acquiring means (75) and a control means (27). The drive wheel makes it possible for the main body case to travel. The map-generating unit (67) generates a map on which area information is recorded. The own position estimating means (73) estimates the position of the vacuum cleaner. The information acquiring means (75) acquires information about the area outside the main body case. The control means (27) ensures the autonomous travel of the main body case by controlling the drive wheel on the basis of the map generated by the map-generating unit (67). The control means (27) implements a search operation if the information about an area during autonomous travel differs from the information about the area recorded on the map generated by the map generation unit (67).
