An auxiliary chamber engine is provided with: a main combustion chamber (21); an auxiliary chamber (22) which is partitioned from the main combustion chamber (21) via a partition wall (23); a plurality of connecting passages (24) provided to the partition wall (23); and fuel injection valve (17) provided to a wall portion of the main combustion chamber (21). A flame formed in the auxiliary chamber (22) through ignition of an air-fuel mixture in the auxiliary chamber (22) is jetted into the main combustion chamber (21) via the connecting passages (24) to ignite an air-fuel mixture inside the main combustion chamber (21). The partition wall (23) has a partition wall outer surface (23a) on the main combustion chamber (21) side, and has a partition wall inner surface (23b) on the auxiliary chamber (22) side. Around an opening portion (24b) of a connecting passage (24a) in the partition wall outer surface (23a), a recess portion (30) is formed having a receiving surface (30a) upon which fuel directly jetted from the fuel injection valve (17) hits. A point of intersection (P1) between the axial line of the fuel inflow connecting passage (24a) and the partition wall inner surface (23b) is positioned closer to a cylinder head as compared to a point of intersection (P2) between the axial line of the directly jetted fuel from the fuel injection valve (17) and a portion of the partition wall inner surface (23b) facing the fuel injection valve (17).
