Abstract:
This auxiliary chamber type internal combustion engine is provided with a main chamber, an auxiliary chamber, a plurality of communicating passages providing communication between the main chamber and the auxiliary chamber, and an ignition plug for igniting an air-fuel mixture introduced into the auxiliary chamber. The plurality of communicating passages include a first communicating passage having a first injection opening for injecting a flame generated in the auxiliary chamber by the ignition into the main chamber, and a second communicating passage having a second injection opening for injecting the flame generated in the auxiliary chamber into the main chamber. The first injection opening is configured such that the flame propagates along ridge lines at which a plurality of inclined surfaces of a cylinder head intersect. The second communicating passage extends in a direction that is more oriented toward a piston than the first communicating passage when seen from a direction perpendicular to a cylinder axial direction.
