This auxiliary chamber-type internal combustion engine comprises: a main chamber; an auxiliary chamber; a first communication path; and a second communication path. The main chamber is defined by a cylinder head, a cylinder, and a piston. The auxiliary chamber protrudes toward the main chamber from the cylinder head and is set apart from the main chamber. The first communication path interconnects the main chamber and the auxiliary chamber. Furthermore, the direction of the first communication path toward the main chamber from the auxiliary chamber, when viewed in the protrusion direction in which the auxiliary chamber protrudes, is inclined in a first direction with respect to the radial direction of the auxiliary chamber. The second communication path is provided in a position different from the first communication path in the protrusion direction in which the auxiliary chamber protrudes and interconnects the main chamber and the auxiliary chamber. The second communication path is, when viewed in the protrusion direction, inclined in a second direction opposite the first direction, with respect to the radial direction of the auxiliary chamber.
