Title:
BACTERICIDE AGAINST STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS AND STREPTOCOCCUS SOBRINUS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/058343
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
It is intended to provide an enzyme having a bacteriolytic effect on bacteria causative of tooth caries, methods of treating or preventing tooth caries with the use of this enzyme and so on. The above-described enzyme, which is a bacteriolytic enzyme produced by Streptococcus mutans, has a substrate specificity of selectively lysing Streptococcus sobrinus. By using this enzyme, therefore, it is possible to selectively remove a cariogenic bacterium in the oral cavity or reducing the bacterial count, thereby exerting an effect of preventing tooth caries.
