Title:
BACK RUBBER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1998/038888
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Back rubber intended for the rubbing in of different skin creams on a human body, comprising a base (8) with an angled stick (11) and a handle (12). The invented device consists of a soft, elastic, hollow, rubber pad (7), with an opening (2) that is adapted to be fastened to the base (8). The pad (7) has an application surface (4) that is provided with circular protrusions, so-called bumps (5). In relation to the application surface also an arched raised outer edge (3) extends. The bumps (5) can when needed be lowered with a light pressure to level with the application surface (4) allowing skin cream between the bumps to become available, but where also the entire with bumps provided application surface (4, 5) can be pressed down a distance towards the base surface (10) to allow contact of the application surface (3, 4, 5) at level differences of for instance protruding shoulder blades on the back. When the invention is to be used the skin cream is first applied to the application surface (4), thereafter the skin cream is rubbed in.

Description:
Back rubber When rubbing the body with "skin cream" the hands are undoubtable the best suited tools for the purpose, even if some problems sometimes arise when certain parts and areas of the body are to be rubbed by oneself. Indeed it is possible to ask someone for help with the rubbing work of the areas of the body that one can not reach oneself. If no help is available for the purpose the rubbing may be of varying quality or one may simply not bother to rub these body areas.

To solve the above mentioned problem a device that facilitates the rubbing work at for instance the back may be good. The device is a back rubber, comprising a base with an application pad and an angled stick with a handle fastened to the base.

The invention is an elastic, hollow, rubber pad, provided with an application surface having a number of circular protrusions or bumps. On the opposite side an opening is adapted to be fastened to the base of the device. The bumps of the pad can when needed with a light pressure against the crests sink down to the level of the application surface allowing applied skin cream that has been lying between the bumps to be available for the skin surface, but where at the same time the entire with bumps provided surface can be pressed down a distance towards a base area and allow contact of the entire application area at level differences on the body surface, for instance at protruding shoulder blade. In relation to the perimeter of the application area also an arched outer edge runs that additionally facilitate the rubbing in at for instance differences of level. The pad may be of a rubber that is not allergenic. for instance silicon rubber. When the invention is to be used the skin cream is first applied to the application surface, then the cream is rubbed in on the body by means of the device.

The stick may also be designed with a telescopic function, which allows different adjustments of the length of the stick. Base with stick and handle may also be provided with one or several joints between the parts, which allows preadapted adjustment of the parts. Base with stick and handle may preferably be made of plastic.

Further advantages and characteristics of the invention are more apparent from a preferred embodiment described with reference to the enclosed drawings.

Fig 1 shows in accordance with the invention a hollow pad in profile beginning with an drawn in inner supporting edge 1 extending with a circumference in a horizontal plane making an opening 2 in the shape of an ellipse. In the example this side is called the lower side. From the support edge 1 an outer side extends around and constitutes an arched raised outer edge 3 with transition to a flat lower situated application surface 4 on the upper side of the pad, that is provided with small circular protrusions, bumps 5. The arched, raised outer side 3 extends with a circumference around the application surface 4 in the shape of an ellipse. The construction constitutes a cavity 6 allowing a space of movement of approximately 2 centimeters between the upper and lower side.

Fig 2 shows according to the invention the upper side of the pad, application surface 4 and 5. The the outer bumps 5(a) are placed closely inside the arched, raised outer side 3, while the inner bumps 5(b) are spaciously located, which allows applied skin cream to tend to collect in the center of the application area 4. The size of the pad can vary but a considered measure is a length of 8 centimeters, a width of six centimeters and a height of 2 centimeters. Application area 4 and 5 is to have a material thickness of one millimeter. The remaining material thickness of the pad may be two millimeters. The bumps 5 is to have an outer diameter of ten millimeters at the base and a height of two millimeters from the flat application surface 4. The arched outer side may be somewhat broader and higher than the bumps 5.

Fig 3 shows according to the invention the bottom side of the pad, with the elliptic opening 2 and the support edge 1 that is to be fastened to a matching and shape adapted base.

Fig 4 shows the pad with a cross section in profile according to the invention and where the pad 7 is fastened to a base 8. The support edge 1 of the pad is fixed in a recessed grove that extends with a circumference in the outer edge of the base and where the support edge is held in place in and against the grove by its own elasticity and a somewhat smaller diameter than the bottom of the grove of the base.

Fig 5 and 6 shows in profile according to the invention, the base 8 that is to function as a fixture for the pad. In the base is arranged a recessed grove 9 that extends with a circumference in the outer edge and where the support edge 1 ofthe pad is to be fixed. The bottom side 10 of the pad is to be plane and is to function as a pattern and support for the application area 4 and 5 of the pad. the depth of the grove is to be 5 millimeters. A considered measurement for the size of the base is seven centimeters long, five centimeters wide and one centimeter high. The base is provided with an angled stick 11 allowing rubbing of the back without having to bring the hand too far rearward over the shoulder at the work. The stick is also provided with a handle 12 and a loop 13 for hanging. A considered length measure of the stick with handle including base is thirty centimeters.

Fig 7 shows according to the invention, the upper side of the base 8 with a part of the stick 11 and where the full dashed line shows the recessed grove 9 that runs with a circumference in the outside of the base.

Fig 8 shows part of the invention with a cross section in profile, where the application area 4, 5 of the pad is pressed down against a skin surface 15 ofthe bottom side 10 ofthe base, and where the bumps 5 are almost entirely in level with the intermediate plane application surface 4, at which applied skin cream 14 between the bumps 5 can be released against a skin surface 15. The bottom side of the base 10 is to function as pattern and support for the application surface of the pad in working position.
