Abstract:
This invention pertains to an edge-light-type backlight device with which it is possible to perform a local dimming process and a display device provided with the backlight device. The size, thickness, and weight are reduced in comparison to conventional devices. This invention pertains to an edge-light-type backlight device having a configuration in which an LED-mounted substrate carrying four LEDs (1(1) to 1(4)) is disposed on the side of one end of a display unit and an LED-mounted substrate carrying four LEDs (1(5)-1(8)) is disposed on the side of the other end of the display unit. The cathode terminal of the LED (1(4)) disposed farthest downstream on the LED-mounted substrate disposed on the side of the one end of the display unit and the anode terminal of the LED (1(5)) disposed farthest upstream on the LED-mounted substrate disposed on the side of the other end of the display unit are connected by a wire on an LED driving substrate. All of the LEDs (1(1) to 1(8)) are driven by a single DC-DC converter (11).
